There's a lot of Packers fans (including me) who defend Rodgers performances in recent years on the basis that the depth at receiver is shocking. Whilst you can't deny he has regressed a bit, you can't expect elite passing numbers when Geronimo Allison who probably shouldn't be in the league starting side. His detractors (and we have one guy who seems to think Rodgers is single handedly at fault for Packers not winning the superbowl, world poverty, Boris Johnson getting elected and probably Covid-19) think that if you have an elite top 5 receiver in Adams then you shouldn't really need much else. Turns out our elite top 5 WR that makes up for the rest of the weak receiving group is actually basically a decent WR2. Truth is probably somewhere in the middle. Adams is clearly a WR1 but probably more like top 10 in the league than top 5. It's not just an elite WR. It's an elite WR, a stud RB, an elite offensive line, a couple of promising younger WRs, and a TE that a division Rival liked enough to write a 2/16 contract for. If a QB needs an elite player at every position to perform at an elite level, he's not an elite QB.
Gmen
Analytics says that good receivers are important. In particular, speed receivers. PFF has a hot take where they think the Giants should draft Henry Ruggs at #4 overall, even if Chase Young is available. They think that Ruggs would have the most impact on the Giants winning games. I'm torn on the matter, because as Giants fan I've seen both ends of the spectrum. In 2011 the Giants were last in the league in rushing. But Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz and Mario Manningham were arguably the best WR trio in the NFL at that time, and Eli threw to the tune of nearly 5000 passing yards that season on the way to the Superbowl. On the other hand, we had OBJ light it up for 3 years with highlight after highlight, and it got us nowhere. Adams is a solid WR. I don’t see him as a WR1. He’ll get shut down by most Top Corners. What!? Adams is one of the very best WRs
