Dude what????

Fournette is just a guy. He offer nothing in the receiving game and doesn't really get a good YPC. He gets most of his yardage from bulk stats. Eckler proved last year that Gordon was just a system guy. Bell has fallen terribly. Kamara I may be underrating but he played like crap last year too.

I’m still not completely dismissing Kamara. He wasn’t playing healthy last year (as any back isn’t by the latter half of the season, but still). How he does the upcoming year will tell a lot... one way or another.

Yeah agreed. It's a bit strange some people seem to give Barkley a mulligan after last season, but not Kamara despite both having the same injury (high ankle) that tends to linger for RB's, and for explosive guys like Kamara/Barkley really limits their effectiveness.

Barkley put up better numbers playing with far less talent.

Sure Kamara had more talent around him, but their numbers were very similar last season.

Kamara- 252 touches, 1330 scrimmage yards, 6 touchdowns, 5.3 yards per touch

Barkley- 269 touches, 1441 scrimmage yards, 8 touchdowns, 5.4 yards per touch

If we are being overly technical though, Kamara had both a high ankle sprain, and knee injury he was dealing with last season Barkley had just a high ankle sprain. It's just kind of funny to see the mulligan being given to Barkley and not Kamara. I've seen little to no movement in many peoples rankings of Barkley after a down injury riddled season, but have seen Kamara go from being touted by most as a top 5 guy to being barely in the top 10 by some after a down injury riddled season. That being said this is a huge season for both Kamara and Barkley after what happened to them last season.

But the talent around him matters. Latavius Murray had production near Kamara's while Kamara was out, while Saquan's understudies we far from Saquan's production numbers. If you watch the Giants, its clear that Saquan would be a top 5 RB (in terms of production) on any team in the NFL because they have not been good since he joined.

Gallman- 40 touches, 212 scrimmage yards, 3 touchdowns, 5.3 yards per touch. See my above post for Barkley's numbers. Just like the Latavius Murray/Kamara situation Gallman's production was similar to Barkley's in limited time last year. Both RB's were visibly not their normal self last year due to injury. I'm not doubting Barkley is very talented, he is, but so is Kamara. Problem being Kamara is getting dinged by many for being injured last year, but Barkley isn't.

Using yards per touch is silly. The metric is influenced significantly more by the breakdown of touches then actual efficiency. 32% of Kamara's touches are receptions. 19% of Barkely's are receptions. Ekeler might be the best back in the league with a 6.9 yards per touch.

Disregarding yards per touch is silly in today's NFL as RB's are being utilized more and more in the pass game (never intended for it to be some sort of be all end all when ranking RB's). That said Kamara did have a slightly higher ypc than Barkley last year. Any singular stat on its own is relatively useless as they often times don't paint much of a picture on their own. Providing several stats on the other hand like I previously posted do tell more of the story.

This has nothing to do with the discounting the passing game, this is about a stat that skews to players that have less carries. It's a dumb stat. It would be similar if you added QBs rushing and passing yards and had a stat for total yards divided by attempt. It would skew towards the pocket passers. Last year Joe Mixon had a better YPC and yards per reception than James Conner and a worse yards per touch.
