๐Ÿ€ theJ's Magic Association Rebuild (NBA 2k13)

With the wife and kids gone during the day this week, i can play this during lunch.ย  Got through the draft.

Chucky Green going at #2 doesn't surprise me - the AI seems to lean heavily toward the front court early in the draft.ย  Coby was basically the last good player taken, leaving my #20 pick as a roster fill.ย

Also, i decided to record the post-draft potential ratings for each player (which was pain, since i had to find them all on their team screens) to give you a comparison against their pre-draft potential.ย  Marty's stuck (which is awesome!), Chad's went down a little.ย  Chucky and Dwayne Coleman also stuck.ย  I may yet regret passing on Dwayne.ย  Overall, a nice draft though.

With the roster already full, i can't really sign any FA's.ย  Plus, there wasn't much to speak of in any positions i wanted.ย  So i'm going to advance through that, and hit the training camps.ย  I'll look for a trade for Gibson and maybe some others once i hit the start of the regular season.

In one of my earlier posts i mentioned that i had enough points to do a camp that would increase the potential for one player.ย  I decided not to do that because it's a really powerful camp that the AI doesn't have access to.ย  For sure i'd be able to blow away the CPU in a few years time using that camp.ย  So instead i used them on "normal" camps that increase other attributes, which i don't feel to be cheating because they just increase the player to their rating cap quicker (as opposed to raising the cap entirely).

2014 Training Camps

  • Chad Elliott - Rebounding Camp (5 points to Off/Def Rebounding) - Now 83 in both, 79 OVR (increase of 1)
  • Dale Burke - Combo Guard - (4 points Ball Handling, Passing, Shoot in Traffic) - Now 43 pass, 74 Ball Handling, 67 SIT
  • Marty McGuire - Perimeter D (6 points On Ball D, and 6 points Steal) - now 72 OBD, 79 Steal, 77 OVR (increase of 1)

Cuts

  • Had 16 on roster, and can only bring 15 to the season
  • Cut Tomas Peterson, SG, 55 OVR

NOTE: Dale Burke's POT rating increased on it's own (!!!!!)

I think you could use a veteran 6th man (scorer) in FA too, but that kind of depends how pick 20 goes.ย ย

After looking at it, i'm going rely on Nick Young again for that role.ย  I didn't post his stats last year, but in 19 mpg, he averaged 9.6 ppg on 44% shooting (36% from 3).ย  He's still a great mid and long range shooter.ย  With McGuire in the fold, i'm going to unleash the hounds a bit more from 3 (i had it dialed way down in previous seasons).ย  That should help Young's scoring a little more.

Young is still a really scorer even later in his career - he just can't play D ha.

Corey Brewer will be the D specialist coming off the bench.ย  Still has an A rating in Defense.

For the first time in the initial power rankings, the Magic are not last! (27th)

My target this year is 35-40 wins.ย  I think it's doable, and would still land me a draft pick that might develop into something.

Even with the difference in POT Elliot still has a 6 OVR head start and was scouted as a better athlete. ย I think you made the right pick.ย

These are some rough draft classes, they must have improved the draft classes around 2k16 or so.

I'm curious how it will affect team's ability to keep starting level talent on rosters long term.ย  I've gone 6 seasons into a MyCareer, but that's not quite long enough to see a huge dropoff in talent.ย  Plus, in that career mode you can't really see other teams roster construction very easily.

ย

I think i might do a crazy thing this season and play Coby Landry in some more extended minutes.ย  He's bad, but after seeing Dale Burke's POT jump, i might be able to get more out of my later round picks if i invest in them.

Not like this team is going to contend this year anyway.

@theJย have you tried taking on bad contracts and in return receiving some compensation?ย ย

Also you might want to start seeing what you can get for 2nd round picks cause they appear to be worthless in this game.ย ย

2nd round picks are worth 1/2 star in the trading system.ย  They're basically the filler if you can't get the compensation to equal.ย  I can't really package them by themselves for anything worthwhile.

Speaking of trades though...

TRADE UPDATE

Magic Taj Gibson Nikola Vucevic Erik Palmer
76ers Spencer Hawes 2015 2nd round Dustin Chambers

Did this one at the very beginning of the season.ย  This gives me a true center to build around for a while longer.ย  Hawes is under a five year deal and is only 26 with B potential, so he might get up to an 80 before he starts regressing.ย  Should be very serviceable for me, and honestly is one of the better centers in the league at this point.ย  That position group is bad.

Hawes is a stretch 5 right? Could pair well with Elliot.
