pf9
In NBC's defense ND was just three years removed from their last title when NBC began airing their home games. That drought is now at 35 years. If ND is its own conference it has the longest active title drought of all P5 conferences, 16 years longer than the next-longest drought that of the Pac-12 which unfortunately for NBC was ND rival USC, who will be appearing on NBC more starting next season as they will join the Big Ten. RaidersForever
One thing that's clear about Freeman is that he needs a good OC to handle that side of the ball. Someone also needs to work on the Notre Dame WRs -- this is two years in a row where the leading receiver is a TE and the passing game can't get going outside of Chris Tyree and the starting TE. Not willing to give up yet on the Marcus Freeman experiment, but the offense needs attention.

If they have any sense, they will offer hosting rights to the first SNF game next year to whoever hires him away from ND.
RaidersForever
How do we feel about the new OC?

I truly believe this is going to be one of the better ND seasons in quite a bit. This team has a huge ceiling.
RaidersForever
Got by a major test in Texas A&M, I feel better about our chances to go undefeated now.

TAMU is a good barometer game, but I’d be worried about a couple other matchups you guys have…..but it is still early.
CrazyJoeDavola
TAMU in Kyle Field on opening night is a very tough test. They weathered the storm. Lots to work on especially offensively. The TAMU defense is legit, but the offense seemed lackluster. Is that Because of the Irish D or they are just mediocre? I think once the oline gels and gets more experience they will be much better. I am glad USC is late in the season. The rest of the schedule is all winnable.
naptownskinsfan
The good news is that, in the new playoff field, that loss isn’t an immediate exclusion. But it is right to discuss Freeman’s future with this team.
candyman93
Notre Dame needs to just go all out and recruit a stud at QB. Like a top 2 prospect and pay them whatever they want.

If he starts slow against Purdue, maybe it's time to hand the reigns back to Angeli.
pf9
I was right to be skeptical about their #7 ranking in both preseason polls. I would have believed the ranking more if Urban Meyer had somehow replaced Freeman as coach. A good way to accomplish that would have been NBC offering hosting rights to the first SNF game of the season to the team that hired Freeman away from ND, which if successful could have led to Meyer's hiring at ND. naptownskinsfan
Yeah, I think Notre Dame hiring Urban Meyer has ‘Jimbo to TAMU’ vibes written all over it. Meyer should still be pretty unhireable after the debacle in Jacksonville, and rightfully so.

Meyer completely checked out his first and only season managing the Jaguars, and didn’t make it through the whole season after being caught on video dancing with someone much younger than him at a bar. ‘Could’ is the operative word here. I think its between ‘highly doubtful’ and ‘impossible’
