As gut-wrenching as the loss to Ohio State was, I think Marcus Freeman has the team trending in the right direction. When a perennial powerhouse needs a (literal) last-second TD to beat us, there's some positives to take away from that. Onward and upward from here.

Absolutely. We’re coming. Now with top level QBs wanting to come here, our time is coming. No more going into big matchups with a significant handicap

They're not trending in the right direction anymore now that their ACC win streak is over.

ND needs to admit they will never make the CFP with Freeman as coach and immediately replace him with Urban Meyer.

They never should have made Freeman HC to begin with. At best he should have been interim for the Fiesta Bowl 2 years ago, and Urban Meyer should have become the new permanent HC, which became possible after he was fired by the Jaguars.

Marcus Freeman was always going to need a bit more time to acclimate to the HC life, especially at a iconic place like ND. Not saying he's necessarily the long-term answer, but it's a bit too soon to give up on him yet. Urban Meyer may have lost too much respect from the debacle (of his own making) as the Jaguars HC, I don't see ND wanting to take that risk. The team just needs to stop shooting themselves in the foot and put together a total team effort consistently week after week while avoiding letdowns after big games.

It's called redemption.

I’m sorry, but this is a laughably bad take

The Freeman era has been very disappointing relatively speaking. He began his tenure blowing a lead in the Fiesta Bowl, and has had at least three losses in each of his first two full seasons as coach. He is the second consecutive ND coach to have at least 8 losses through two full seasons. I would not blame NBC if they decided to sue the institution for fielding teams unrepresentative of the ND brand during the network's tenure as the broadcaster of ND home games. No wonder they added the Big Ten. They wanted to increase the chances they broadcast at least one home game or conference championship appearance of the eventual national champion as ABC, CBS, and Fox have already done in the CFP era. It could very well pay off as soon as this season.

If ND decides not to fire Freeman, look for NBC to offer hosting rights to the first Sunday Night Football game of 2024 to the NFL team that lures him away from ND.
