Darnold had another solid year but I still don't plan on building around him.

Rookie WR Ferguson went nuts, I wouldn't be surprised if he makes the PB.  WR Bridge also did well.  TE Bradshaw was solid.

Rookie MLB Wofford had a good season, but I got no pressure from anyone.

CB Poole had 5 INTs and a TD.

DT Reynold was a huge disappointment.  Both of my first rounders gave me nothing this year.

Ferguson won OROY.  Wofford won DROY.  Poole was surprisingly the best DB in the AFC.  I'm thinking it might be a good time to sell high on Poole in the trade market.

Rookie WR J Ferguson picked up Star Dev for winning OROY.

Surprisingly Rookie TE Bradshaw picked up Star Dev as well.

Rookie MLB Wofford was drafted as Star Dev and didn't increase after winning DROY.

FREE AGENCY

With so many draft picks I don't have a lot of roster spots available for FAs.  I'm going to keep to a limited approach in free agency.

LE Ryan Kerrigan (77) - 1 year offer, $4.5 mil salary, $2.75 mil SB, $7.20 Y1 cap hit ($7.2 mil total contract) ACCEPTED

- I had no pressure last year.  Kerrigan is 34 years old, he can come in and mentor my younger guys and maybe still get a few sacks.

FB Nick Bawden (70) - 2 year offer, $1.1 mil salary, $500k SB, $1.41 Y1 cap hit ($3.1 mil total contract) ACCEPTED

- Gives me an option at FB if I can't draft a good one.

This is another deep draft class.  I don’t like to move up in drafts in the first round, but with how deep this second round is I think I’ll consider moving down from my 2nd first round pick.

The top prospect, RE Branch looks like a stud.  He ran a 4.63 and benched 31 reps.  At 277 lbs he can probably take snaps anywhere on the dline.  I expect him to be long gone before I pick.  Unfortunately there are no other edge rushers worth taking in the first round, which is a bummer cause it’s a huge need.

WR Hagans won the Heisman, and is a big bodied possession WR.  He’s not fast, but if he were to fall to me I would take him.  I don’t expect him to fall.  WR Luckett is the youngest of the first round prospects, and he ran a 4.49 which is solid.  He has a good frame and excellent top 3 skills.  He looks like a great player but I took a bunch of position players last year, so I’m looking to target the lines more this year.  WR Slay is huge and fast, but is 23 and listed as a Late First talent.  If he were available with my second first round pick I’d have to consider him purely off of that size/speed combo.  WR Greer is fast but tiny.  He’s listed as an Early First talent but is also 23.  He could probably contribute in the slot and as a KR/PR.

DT Magee looks like an absolute stud.  21 years old, Early First talent.  Didn’t have a huge combine but it was good enough.  DTs Sherman and Roby both are 22 years old, and both had better combines that Magee.  Roby is listed as a Mid First, while Sherman is Late First, but Sherman did a whopping 38 bench reps.  Roby only did 30, Magee 32.

CB Sharrif Basnight looks like he should be converted to FS, as his top skill is Zone Coverage.  He would be a bit undersized at Safety though.  CB Parrish could also convert, but he has better size.  Basnight looks like a better prospect out of the two combine wise.  CB Sweeting had a killer combine but is 23 years old.  His top 3 skills look excellent though, with both Man and Zone coverage listed.  He might be a legit star.  SS Bigby would fill a big need, is 22 and had a solid combine.  I feel like I can wait for him till the 2nd round though.  Same with FS Jones.

HB Morton skipped the combine but is listed as an Early First round talent.  After taking a first round RB last year, Morton would have to fall deep into the 2nd round for me to even consider taking him.

RG Curran looks like a pretty good player, Late First talent though so might be early for my first pick.  RB Johnston is a very similar player, except he’s 23.  Johnston did do 38 bench reps though.  RG Sergio Mcphee looks like the best Olineman in the class.  22 years old, great combine, great 3 stats.  He looks like a homerun.  He would be a boring but solid pick with my top selection.

ROLB Blaylock might be my top target in this class.  He’s a little undersized, but ran a 4.58 and did 28 bench reps.  He should be a stud OLB in a 4-3 scheme.

This is one of the strongest TE classes I’ve ever seen, which kind of sucks cause TE isn’t a need of mine.  TE Brooks is listed the highest, and is solid, but TE Archer and TE Calhoun are both Early First talents in the 2nd round.  Archer is the better player based on his combine.  If he makes it into the 2nd round I may move up to secure taking him.  Then I could trade Herndon and Bradshaw would make a strong #2 option.

Finally, QB Cam Trout is undersized but has a cannon arm.  I won’t consider him in the first but if he falls deep into the 2nd I could use someone to groom behind Darnold.

Lets get started.

Heisman winner WR Kordell Hagans goes #1 to the Redskins.  DT Alfonso Magee is #2 to the Jags.  RE Anthony Branch is #3 for the Bucs.  The Bills take WR Bob Luckett #4.  And RT Jamaal Crosby rounds out the top 5 to the Texans.  I didn't even have Crosby on my draft board, he sucks.

Time to sim to 14.

RG Curran, ROLB Blaylock, RG Johnston, CB Sweeting, CB Basnight, CB Parrish, LE Mitchell, & RG McPhee are gone.

God I can't believe McPhee went right before my pick, that happened to me last year with Juan Nash.  The majority of my board is gone, this sucks.

BPA are: HB Morton, WR Slay, TE Brooks, WR Greer, QB Trout, and the DTs Sherman and Roby.

If feels crazy for me to take another WR, but the way the board fell I feel like WR Slay is the BPA here.  He's only a Late First talent, but he's 6'5" and ran a 4.40.  I can probably take one of the DTs at 20.  Only problem is that Slay is 23 years old.

With the 14th Pick in the NFL Draft the NY Jets select:

WR Parker Slay, Tennessee

Physical (73), Deep Threat (73), Slot (72), Route Runner (68)

iKngoIa.jpg

- UGHHHHHH.  Normal dev.  At 23 that's brutal.  He only has 91 SPD and 89 ACC too.  Crap.

Simming to 20.

TE Brooks and WR Greer went off the board.

*TRADE*

Washington Receives

#20 overall

LT Cam Robinson (74)

NY Jets Receive

#33 overall

2023 Washington 2nd Round pick

This trade drops me out of the first to the top of the 2nd round.  I may miss out on some guys but this gets me a likely high end 2nd round pick next year.  This gives Washington a new starter in Cam Robinson (who lost out to rookie starter at RT last year) and the ability to get another player on a 5 year option.

Both DT Sherman and Roby are gone after simming to 33.  I may regret that but DT wasn't really a first round need for me right now.  On the board are HB Morton, SS Bigby, TE Archer, FS Jones and TE Calhoun.  I really like TE Archer as a prospect and think he's the pick here.

With the 33rd Pick in the NFL Draft the NY Jets select:

TE Thad Archer, Washington State

Possession (76), Vertical Threat (75), Blocking (65)

m9X9fxQ.jpg

- HIDDEN DEV!  Boom.  Needed that.  This guy is a stud.  Great size, elite speed.  Needs to work on blocking but that will come.

I've got 2 more picks in the 2nd, at 46 & 55.

Wow.  Pretty much my whole board is gone.  TE Calhoun is still available but I can't take another TE.

There's still a lot of talent left in this draft.

With the 46th Pick in the NFL Draft the NY Jets select:

LE Desmond Irons, Auburn

Speed Rusher (74), Run Stopper (71), Power Rusher (68)

fnBxbZR.jpg

- Only normal dev, but he's 22 and a good athlete.  Pass rushers can gain dev traits pretty easily so hopefully he develops.  Regardless he will be good depth at a position of need.

With the 55th Pick in the NFL Draft the NY Jets select:

FS Lindsey Rhodes, Stanford

Run Support (74), Hybrid (71), Zone (70)

wVtQMFJ.jpg

- Normal dev again, plus he's 23.  But, he's prety fast for a safety and 74 OVR is solid.

Simming to 3rd.

With the 78th Pick in the NFL Draft the NY Jets select:

DT Ed Powell, FSU

Run Stopper (73), Power Rusher (68), Speed Rusher (65)

5wz8cdA.jpg

- Solid depth DT.  Normal dev.  22 years old.

With the 89th Pick in the NFL Draft the NY Jets select:

RE Damarious Mcallister, Oklahoma

Power Rusher (68), Speed Rusher (64), Run Stopper (63)

4ygi9MJ.jpg

- Normal dev.  More bodies for the dline.  Probably a career backup.

4th round.

With the 121st Pick in the NFL Draft the NY Jets select:

RE Khalid Singleton, Missouri

Speed Rusher (69), Power Rusher (65), Run Stopper (62)

struocE.jpg

- Normal dev again.  Good size and great athlete.  He should develop into a pretty good player.

5th round.

With the 140th Pick in the NFL Draft the NY Jets select:

WR Marion Davis, Mid Tennessee State

Deep Threat (68), Slot (66), Route Runner (62), Physical (59)

OfgdxZs.jpg

- Normal dev.  Good speed, more of a slot guy.  Decent depth.

With the 142nd Pick in the NFL Draft the NY Jets select:

LG Quandre Hendricks, FSU

Agile (66), Power (62), Pass Protector (58)

xC8DVDn.jpg

- Normal dev.  The olineman in this class were abysmal.

With the 14th Pick in the NFL Draft the NY Jets select:

FB Kaleb Conley, BYU

Blocking (71), Utility (65)

IAPnYHA.jpg

- Man, come on. Normal dev.  This guys combine looked incredible.  Frustrating.

Traded 5th round pick to the Bills for a future 4th.

Traded 6th round pick to the Jaguars for a future 5th.

With the 206th Pick in the NFL Draft the NY Jets select:

MLB Earl Booker, Ole Miss

Run Stopper (68), Field General (66), Pass Coverage (61)

ILSoVH3.jpg

- Wow, solid pick.  I didn't have him scouted but he had a good combine.  Normal dev but great pick for the 7th.

Only one Hidden dev, a potential miss in the first round, and no good olineman.  Not a great draft.

Texans Receive

DT Q Williams (83)

TE C Herndon (75)

NY Jets

Texans 2023 1st Round Pick

The Texans under BOB will trade any picks for reasonably talented players.  Q Williams is coming off of a Pro Bowl season but I'm looking to replace the entire roster so I'm selling him high here.  TE is there biggest need so it gives Watson another weapon.

Early cuts, cause I have too many to fit into my grid:

WR B Perriman (76) - he has 2 years left on his deal around $4.5 mil each year.  I don't see anyone trading for that.

WR Q Enunwa (74) - he's making $11.4 mil this year.  Untradeable.

WR J Doctson (71) - $3.5 mil this year.

Ok, Round 2 on Turbin's rookie year.  Lets see if he can get out of the preseason this time.

I'm going to keep FB Conley around to help the run game.

Rookie WR Slay will start as the #2 WR.

Rookie TE Archer will start, Bradshaw becomes the new #2.

The Oline remains unchanged, which blows.

There will be a lot of cuts along the Dline.

Rookie DE Irons will start at LE.  Ryan Kerrigan will start at RE.

DTs Reynolds and Powell take over inside.

I moved LB Cashman to LOLB, where he will start.

Rookie SS Rhodes will start.

This is a future 4th for a guy I don't have reps for anymore.  He's solid I just ended up drafting a ton of DEs this year.
