Hunter2_1
If you are ranking edge defenders / pass rushers right now, where do you put TJ Watt? I think he's awesome and he's actually my pick for DPOY, but will probably have an up-hill battle to win that. Hunter2_1
Pro Football Network has him 4th. 1. Mack 2. Jones 3. Garrett 4. Watt; "Watt wasn’t far off the defensive MVP conversation last year and has quickly emerged as one of the league’s very best pass-rushers. He is dropping into coverage (something he is also pretty good at) less often now and has developed an amazing ability to pry the ball loose, causing eight fumbles last year. Big brother was outstanding last year when he was on the field, but TJ is now the top Watt in the family." NFL Network has it; 1. Jordan 2. Garrett 3. Watt Watt is as dangerous as any pass rusher, with an array of moves that make him unpredictable and hard to block. He consistently makes plays in the passing lanes with his hands, deflecting eight passes last season. And the guy's a takeaway machine, generating 10 turnovers alone in 2019 -- including a league-leading eight forced fumbles PFF have it; 1. JJ Watt... 2. Mack 3. Jordan 4. Miller 5. TJ Watt; T.J. Watt’s career has been an exercise in steady improvement, and last season that improvement took him from very good to one of the best in the game. He had a legitimate Defensive Player of the Year-caliber season and finished with the highest PFF pass-rushing grade (91.7) of any edge rusher. He also progressed from just getting a lot of pressure to making impact plays, sacking the quarterback 18 times, forcing eight fumbles and even picking off a couple of passes. If Watt repeats that level of play in 2020, he could be the top name on this list in a year’s time. Only Aaron Donald has had more single games with a PFF grade above 80.0 in the past two seasons. MSURacerDT55
He's good but would he still be good without a defense with Cam Heyward, Stephon Tuitt, and Bud Dupree on the other side? If you put him on the Jets or the Lions, i'm not sure he would be this all world player when the opposing offenses can exclusively gameplan for him. Watt had his best year last year with Tuitt out pretty much the entire year, and Dupree benefits from Watt far more than vice versa. Dupree isnt particularly great as a pass rusher, but with Watt on the other side, he doesnt get the attention he would otherwise. Watt is a huge reason for Dupree's emergence as a capable pass rusher. Would Watt be as good on the Jets? Who knows? Too many variables. You could question that about most players, though. Watt has enough smarts and athleticism to safely assume he would have plenty of individual success wherever he want.

Would x player be as good if he didn’t have great coaching and some other talent? Who knows. But having all those guys on defense doesn’t somehow make Watts’ ability to create turnovers at such a high level go drastically up. He’s making those kinds of plays regardless. 1 hour ago, 43M said: Watt had his best year last year with Tuitt out pretty much the entire year, and Dupree benefits from Watt far more than vice versa. There’s no defensive help that’s suddenly making him who he is. He is who he is and is the biggest engine in making that defense go.

It's a line that already has some talent in the middle. That would be a sick line, and he'd be the dominant pass rushing piece. God, I wish he was a Pat
SBLIII
Watt isn't scheme dependend. He whips the guys in front of him consistently. In the NYG game you saw him not record a sack but he was the best player on that field and it wasn't close, consistent pressure is the most valuable asset. There is a good argument that can be made that he is the best edge in the NFL atm. I certainly would take him over Garrett and Mack.

LuckIsGOAT
Its tough to differentiate between Mack, TJ Watt, Jordan, Jones, Clark, and Garrett. Not including Miller since he's injured.

BlaqOptic
I will say this... I don't know where he ranks as an Edge Rusher/Defender (because guys like Mack and Miller are just naturally better at it). But I do think he is easily a Top 5 Defensive Player in the NFL and I think it's inarguable.
