onejayhawk
Here is an article about the RB situation. Clyde has been all but ruled out but the team did not see fit to sign a free agent. This is a clear vote of confidence in La'Veon Bell, but there are other RB if needed. With the playoff scheme almost completely settled, the staff is likely to play more bench in any event.https://chiefswire.usatoday.com/lists/kansas-city-chiefs-running-back-clyde-edwards-helaire-replacement-options/ The game is also noteworthy because Atlanta may be checking out Eric Bienemy as a possible head coach. Raheem Morris took over when Atlanta was 0-5. He has led them to significant improvement, 4-5, but is still an interim coach. EB is on several lists as a possible replacement. Two pieces of the Falcons OL are out as well as Darquez Dennard. For the Chiefs, Clyde and Wilson are out. Hill and Clark are questionable. If this seems like preseason where they will pull a player for minor issues, you are not alone thinking so. After all, the Chiefs lost Juan Thornhill in game #17 last year. KC_Guy
So curently the Chiefs only have THREE active LB ... Gay, Harris and Niemann. They have Smith (called up last week) and Cobb on the PS ... plus there obviously is a chance Hitchens may return. Something to keep an eye on. But be prepared to see a heavy dose of Niemann and Gay this week. And the Landlord may have to play closer to the LOS than I prefer.
onejayhawk
Against the Saints, the Chiefs played 5 DB over 90%, while Niemann played over 75%. I expect a repeat this week. Sneed gives excellent run support for a CB and Wharton is creates chaos in the middle. I hate to think where this defense would be without the rookies. onejayhawk
The Chiefs picked up Patrick Omameh to PS. He tried out here earlier in the season, but signed with the Raiders. He's a classic jack of all trades, who can play anything but C. I will expect him to be active for week #17. https://chiefswire.usatoday.com/2020/12/26/kansas-city-chiefs-practice-squad-transactions-patrick-omameh-emmanuel-smith/ J

Look for him to see some game action if at all possible. For depth at LB, the Chiefs activated Omari Cobb, also on a one week basis. onejayhawk
They went over 90% nickel against the Saints and Alvin Kamara, but still had good results. Turk Wharton is a real asset in the run defense, even more than Mike Pennel. J
