Ok, this is probably a dumb question and if it's not then way too early and unlikely, but I'll ask anyway. With Simmons, LeBron, Giannis basically playing PG (full time or part time), and big guys being more and more skilled with the ball, will we see a major shift to teams wanting bigger players to play the position, getting rid of the smaller guys slowly? Basically kinda how the traditional big is a dying breed, and how specialists at the position (Steve Kerr) no longer exist, could this happen to the Damian Lillard sand Chris Pauls of the league?

This is kind of a biased question, because you guys probably know my negative take on the PG position with basically one exception. I personally would love to see this happen. It's just kinda weird to see Simmons actually being listed as a PG officially, even though other guys are now.

I think as the game continues to evolve on all levels and there is more progressive thinking position wise we will see more big guys trying to play like Simmons and them. It's still a rare gift as of now to me. I mean large point guards have always been valued and if you aren't good you aren't good

^Right, but if you think about it, before now it was only Magic and nobody else EVER. Then it was LeBron 10+ years later. Now we have basically 3 of those type of players at the same time. It could be that we have only these three ten years from now too, but if this is an upward trend, why would you want the next John Wall if you can have the next Giannis and there are multiple similar prospects to choose from?

Penny Hardaway could be lumped in that category as well as Grant Hill.

But yeah, now you have three guys doing at it once. I don't think the smaller guys like Lillard will go anywhere though. At least not yet. As @champ11said, it's still rare to see guys that big being able to handle the ball and play PG.

It would be interesting to see traditional sized Cs and PGs basically erased from the game lol.

nah. One, two of those guys have actual PGs starting alongside them (when the teams are healthy). And Simmons will eventually with Fultz. Two, it is easier for small guys to handle the ball, breakdown defenses, and generally just maneuver the court better/easier. I also think it is easier for little guys to do it because of conditioning. Even if more big guys are able to do it you want as many players with that skillset on the court as possible and unless there are 300 Simmons/Brons in the world at the same time there still will be little people.

^I don't think it's easier for small guys to break down defenses. In fact I think it's easier for Kawhi to defend Westbrook than it is LeBron. LeBron might have trouble beating Avery Bradley off the dribble, but it would never be a factor because that would never be a matchup for obvious reasons.

But Simmons is just gifted as a passer though. Rarely do we see a big That vision and passing ability.. Gianni's is just more of a freak than a gifted passer.. I were your headed but I doubted.

I mean aside from CP3 whose a great passing PG!? Those days are gone and the position evolved with a shooting/scoring PG..

like Jalen said! Positions were created for novelist to know what's up! Positinless basketball is the future.

^I think Kidd-type PG is the only one that can survive. Basically a lower volume ball mover who makes good decisions and can shoot the ball 5 times or 20 times depending on what the team needs. High volume PGs have never made any championship impact in the NBA since Magic. Curry is the only exception and anyone who could shoot the way he can will be an exception at any position. Guys like Wall and Lillard will never win anything because at the end of the day they dominate the ball as much as LeBron but produce a fraction of what LeBron does.

But it also depends on the team... Cuz why not put Russel in that conversation along with Harden.
