The highest I'll have rated Robinson was at an Isaac Bruce level when at St. Louis. He's never shown he can be the alpha level wide receiver at any scheme.

I don't know about that. Bruce WAS the alpha for years before Holt arrived. That is like bashing Green for being behind Hopkins or Bolden because he's behind Fitzgerald. Sometimes a number 2 for one team is better than the 1 for others. In Tru's first year our 1 was at best a 3 on most teams.

Given passes from Trubisky, Daniel, Foles, in an offense filled with Nagy concepts, well, we will never know.  Really curious to see what he does next year in a different offense.

And he still finished 4th in the league in receptions and 9th in yards last season among all WRs despite playing with terrible QBs and poor play calling. Not to mention being the most consistent player on our dreadful offense for the last 2 years straight despite all of this. On one hand I want him to stay to help Fields develop but on the other hand I also wouldn't mind seeing him go elsewhere to compete for a title. God knows he deserves it.

No doubt he has never had an elite QB but with the like of Hopkins, Diggs, Thomas, Hill & Metcalf around I just couldn't put him in that company...all are a lot more explosive and threatening to a defence.

I'll give you Nuk, Diggs, and Hill....and I would even throw Adams into the mix. Maybe even Thomas....but Metcalf.....I'm not sure about that for different reasons. (I'll get back to this in a sec). It's also worth noting that every WR you mentioned have played with great QBs, better play callers, and never had to adapt to the absurd amount of staff turnover that include 3 different HC's, 5 different OCs, and 4 different WR coaches in 7 active years like Robinson has either.

2014: Gus Bradley /Jeff Fisch /Jerry Sullivan /Blake Bortles /Chad Henne
2015: Gus Bradley /Greg Olsen /Jerry Sullivan /Blake Bortles
2016: Doug Marone /Nathaniel Hackett /Kelly Skipper /Blake Bortles
2018: Matt Nagy /Mark Helfrich /Mike Furrey /Mitch Trubisky /Chase Daniel
2019: Matt Nagy /Mark Helfrich /Mike Furrey /Mitch Trubisky /Chase Daniel
2020: Matt Nagy /Bill Lazor /Mike Furry /Mitch Trubisky /Nick Foles

^^^That is a horrible list of names here.

But this also brings me to another point. While Arob may not be the best WR in the league....let's be honest, most WRs outside of the consensus top 2 or 3 are largely interchangeable based on personal preference and Arob certainly fits somewhere in this discussion.

Now going back to the Thomas and Metcalf comparison.

Thomas is a slot receiver who is used as a glorified TE on short routes (albeit a very good one) which pads his stats and he benefits alot from both Payton's system and defenses keying in on Kamara while also having Brees throwing the ball to him. And while I'm aware Brees wasn't the same "Brees" that he was known for later on in his career, even a broken down 40 year old Brees is 10x better than anyone Arob has ever had at QB.

Metcalf may have the higher ceiling than Arob but he also benefits alot of from playing opposite of Lockett (who is no slouch himself) while also having one of the best QBs in the league throwing to him. And even with these one-sided benefactors in his favor, it's still far too early to say he is better than Arob at this stage given the circumstances.

This is Metcalf's 2nd year with Russ Wilson and Tyler Lockett compared to Arob's 2nd year with Blake Bortles and Allen Hurns.

Interesting choice of words.

The 2020 season was just another stellar campaign for Allen Robinson. The veteran receiver has developed from a downfield, 50/50-ball specialist in his early days in Jacksonville, into a full-field legitimately elite No. 1 alpha receiver for the Bears.

With a 78.6 percent success rate vs. man coverage score in 2020, Robinson has now cleared the 97th percentile in that metric for two-straight seasons. He led all charted players with a 79.3 percent success rate vs. man coverage score in 2019. Only the NFL’s very best players sustain those kinds of results. Chicago lines Robinson up at all the receiver positions and he thrives in every spot. He sports high-end route success rates on a variety of patterns at each level of the field.

Allen Robinson has offered up top-five or eight wide receiver play for two-straight seasons.

It’s embarrassing that his quarterback play hasn’t even come close to that area of competency. Of course, he’s sadly used to that at this point.

All great points...but I would be willing to bet if you asked 10 NFL CBs who strikes more fear into you Metcalf or Robinson? 9 out of 10 say Metcalf...

Truth be told if you asked 10 of us as fans who we would rather have I think the answer would be the same.

Fair enough. I don't necessarily disagree with this. I'm just saying overall they're pretty comparable to one another. Now if all things were equal and I had to choose between them right now for the same price then I probably would pick Metcalf over arob because he's younger and has a higher ceiling IMO.
