biggie.
Assuming based on their defense season: 2014 Seahawks 2020 Chiefs 2021 Bucs 2017 Patriots 2019 Patriots 2016 Broncos

Rank by the way they played after they lost the Super Bowl the following season? Accounting for major injuries by season's end: 1. 2014 Seahawks 2. 2017 Patriots 3. 2020 Chiefs 4. 2021 Buccaneers 5. 2019 Pats 6. 2016 Broncos Edited February 4, 2022 by DoleINGout

lancerman
If you go by the whole season it's probably 2020 Chiefs and 2017 Patriots at the top since they were legitimately dominant nearly the entire year. Though I would say the 2017 Patriots probably went into the Super Bowl a bit stronger while objectively the Chiefs kinda limped in there. 2021 Bucaneers as they were strong and got the two seed and despite having injuries were still beating some pretty good teams late. They had a Saints problem, but aside from that, a lot of people felt they had a real shot at repeating. 2014 Seattle would be next, but people kinda forget they started the season a bit slow starting 3-3 and being 6-4 ten games in before catching fire and winning 6 in a row to get the 1 seed. Honestly none of the rest had a real chance to repeat. 2019 Patriots were probably next. They were the weakest Pats team in years, but they were hot for the first half the season with awesome defensive play and a good offense before they lost most of their pieces. After that they went 4-4 but two of those losses were to the MVP and another to the eventual SB champs and then the Miami game which they seem to lose all the time anyways. Houston was the only other loss and they were a 10 win team. So they didn't totally suck. But I think everyone knew they were itching for a playoff loss. 2016 Broncos were last. It was just obvious Sieman wasn't going to make any use of the offense and that defense just wasn't going to grind again they did in 2015. You could tell they had no faith in their offense. I think the 21 Bucs are a straight up better and more rounded team than the 17 Pats. They just fell apart at the end with injuries/AB craziness. The Bucs had the Rams and Saints who just outright had their number. The Bucs showed weaknesses and struggles all year including in games they won. The 2017 Pats worst showing was the SB and that was only only on the defensive side and you probably blame the coach for that. The 2017 Pats if they were in place of the current Pats would probably have came out of the AFC this year and would have really good odds to come out of the NFC

Defensively it’s not even close. Tampa was 4th in defensive efficiency while NE was 31st. Offensive line not close. WRs not close. The 2021 Bucs line is arguably the best of Brady’s whole career. The 2017 Line got Brady sacked over 35 times. The 2017 pats got destroyed by Alex smith and the chiefs lol. If you put the 21 Bucs in the 17 AFC they run away with and the 17 pats are not beating the Rams. Edited February 6, 2022 by CP3MVP

Yes Tampa had a better front but the Patriots were still solid there. WR's are only not close if you assume they are healthy all year. AB missed half the year, Godwin got knocked out. By the end it was really just Evans and Gronk. Ad the 2017 Pats a better Gronk, Cooks, Amendola, Hogan. They were much deeper by the end. Same with RB's. The Bucs had Fournette, but the Pats had a deeper group of Lewis, Burkhead, White. And obviously a better version of Tom Brady and a better HC. Tampa killed themselves being undisiciplined. They took themselves out of games and they caused their own problems which is why they got knocked out in the divisional

It should be Tampa was decimated in the secondary all year, still Overall Tampa had a better defense top to bottom. 2.)The WRs aren’t close any way you slice it lol. Even if Edelman was healthy and not injured from preseason year Tampa has 3 WRs better than him. Evans Godwin and brown are also better than cooks. If you want to add TE to overall receiving options obviously prime Gronk helps but not enough to offset WR. Especially when you consider 2021 Gronk was a top ten TE. RBs are a push. 3.)I will take it that you are conceding offensive line? 4.)Coaching and special teams is were 17 Pats are clearly superior. I conceded that from the jump. The team that knocked Tampa out of the divisional craps on the team that the pats faced in the 17 divisional and any team they faced in the AFC playoffs. The Eagles are a tossup Edited February 6, 2022 by CP3MVP

So they were in the game longer than everyone on the Bucs. If we go by that logic, don’t count AB, don’t count Godwin. Both of them didn’t even get in the playoffs and then we can talk about all the guys who were off the offensive line for the 2021 Bucs come playoff time. Straight up the Pats that made the SB would have beat the Bucs who made that divisional game.
