On Drake London - I’m lower on him than the consensus. He’s my WR5. I’m very confident he’ll be a good receiver, I just don’t have much hope he can be a great one. I think he’s a bit limited in his NFL utility to be mostly a contested catch guy and good red zone target. I don’t think he’s a down-after-down #1 receiver. I don’t think he’s very versatile. But if you take him and commit to CeeDee having a really robust role out of the slot, then that could be a positive for our offense. Still, he would only sit above Raimann and Lloyd on this list for me:

Was/curious dubious about him sneaking into the mid-late first mix. I know this is a horrible way to evaluate prospects, and a tacit admission I know little about the player... but when was the last time USC produced a great WR? Seems the best they can muster these days is pretty good/ok (Woods, JuJu, Agholor etc.)

I’m a bit confused with your WR rankings. You have Williams #1 which I agree with but Wilson #4 behind someone who he was widely considered better than in college his teammate Olave. I think you might have Burks overrated but your a little low on London imo.

I think it’s

Williams, Wilson, London, Olave, Burks/Dotson—- I like Calvin Austin as well

It’s totally fair to disagree with me. And if I was just going to go with the consensus, I could look it up the day before the draft to find out. I have fun watching and researching,  myself, and judging for myself. I don’t expect I’ll agree with the masses on every player.

I think people act like Olave was a clear second fiddle to Wilson in the OSU offense. He’s had more catches and more TDs than Wilson over the last two seasons, and slightly fewer yards. They were 1A and 1B. I watch Olave, and I see a really polished receiver, who runs great routes and can separate both early and late. I watch Wilson, and I see an explosive guy who gets away with stuff against college competition that will be tougher in the pros. I agree that Wilson has more upside, but I think he’s a higher risk. And for the Cowboys specifically, I think Olave is more likely to be ready to complement CeeDee from day 1. You can plug him into the offense and roll.

On Burks, I think he’s an absolute playmaker, with a lot more upside to go. Definitely my 2nd favorite. What a fun weapon to have. He can develop the focal point of a really good offensive attack in the NFL, IMO. There’s a clear line of separation for me between Burks and the OSU guys.

Question:
Why does the NFL limit visit and interviews?

I imagine it has to do with player strain, no? We don't want all 32 teams wasting a single players time. But then would the benefit not be to say cap a player's interviews or visits at say 10 or 16 clubs? And then let clubs interview and visit with as many teams as they want? Would likely help with uncovering priority free agents and DII DIII players.

Teams that invest in scouting resources should have more agency to be successful.

Because then no one would go visit the Lions or Jaguars.

But they don’t really limit interviews. There are a million opportunities to interview every player in the draft, if you want. You can even go put a player through a private workout, doesn’t count as a top-30.

This is interesting. I didn't know/realize this.

Surprised it doesn’t seem to happen more, or maybe it’s just kept a better secret. But sometimes the word leaks.

Dak is the perfect example of your options with a prospect. The Cowboys coached him at the Senior Bowl, had a formal interview at the combine, invited him for a top-30 visit, and then held a private workout in Mississippi.

That’s why “top 30” visits are not that predictive for most teams. You don’t need to get them in the building to really get to know them. But for Dallas, those 30 visits are the best opportunity the Joneses have to get to know these guys. So they tend to curate their invite list a bit more deliberately.

I’d like to think they took some time with Nik Bonitto as well.

If you want someone who can improve your pass rush from day 1, Bonitto is your guy. He might be there at #56, though, because his long-term utility is being an exploitable pass rush specialist, and not a legit stud DE. I’m torn about how I’d feel if we drafted him.
