The 26th pick of the 2012 NFL draft, Mercilius amassed 345 tackles, 57 sacks and 11 turnovers over a 10 year stint in Houston. Mercilus was cut last season and finished up his career in Green Bay, where he only played five games (recorded a sack while a Packer). His skill was inconsistent - he had his best year in 2015, with 52 tackles and 12 sacks - but you can’t question his personality and willingness to play to what the team needed, and the leadership mantle he took on in his time in Houston. Whitney Mercilus is truly one of the good guys in the NFL. Good to see him call it a day, I’m happy for the guy.
SteelKing728
He has a sweet name for an edge rusher and I had no idea he was in the league for 10 years. I hope he enjoys retirement!

Like his dad was set on him being a hitman but his mom really wanted to name him after Whitney Houston.
Pugger
He seemed like a good guy. I was kinda hoping we'd resign him for 2022...

I think his release from Houston was with this in mind - he was on his last dance and he wanted a shot for a deep playoff run. That pec injury has been following him around for a few years, so retirement is best for his body.
Mox
Bummer. He was good last year and was hoping to bring him back for another season. He worked his *** off to come back from injury only for that massive letdown of a postseason.
TheEagle
I was hoping the Packers would resign him. He was a solid backup in the games he played. Good guy too.
incognito_man
Stay in shape, we might need you in November/December! Wish him well, he was a nice addition for his brief stay. Left a lot of GB fans hoping for his return.
