I think Obada makes it, they can & have used him at DE & DT, he’s played meaningful snaps in the league. In 2018 he had 2 sacks for the Panthers as a rookie, in 2018 he had 5.5 sacks & 3.5 sacks for the Bills last year. Again, versatility helps him. I think Daniel Wise is pretty much entrenched as our 4th DT. It’s clearly a mistake. He’s always been a defensive tackle, even in college & when he signed as an UDFA in 2019 w/ Dallas, he played DT in the preseason for us last year too. They have (at least) 4 weeks until Chase to let some of the DL depth sort itself out, and I’d be surprised if injuries don’t end up solving the roster crunch. In addition to the obvious guys (Allen, Sweat, Payne, Mathis), I expect to see JSW, Wise, Toohill, Obada, and Toney. I’m not sold on Obada, but he was their big FA signing on defense (how sad is that?) and I assume they’ll give him a shot. Toohill has flashed more this preseason than I’m used to, and I think it’ll be down to Toney and WBJ for that last spot. I think you give it to the more gifted pass-rusher, who you can bring in on obvious passing downs for some juice. Speaking of Obada being their biggest defensive FA, they should be ashamed at the depth charts for LB and CB. There’s no excuse to sit on millions in cap space when you’ve got gaping holes in the first-level depth portion of your roster. The fact that we’re a couple injuries away from Milo Eifler or Corn Elder taking starter reps for us is wild. In a season where winning is the expectation. I gave these guys so much deference when it came to LBs, insisted that they deserve the benefit of the doubt because of what they accomplished in CAR, and…how do they repay that faith? With what has to be the worst LB group in the NFL, unless Jamin Davis steps up and bails them out. Which is a little doubtful. He looked better in preseason, but he’s still absolutely fooled far too often. Not that they have anyone behind him. The LB depth chart looks like where a position group might stand in Week 17, after months of attrition have forced you into rostering fringe NFL players to survive — not where anyone should possibly ever be in Week 1.
