Hungary Hippos

Offense: Pass-Run 60/40

Style RPO

Dak Attack is Back baby! This week we face our greatest rival in Rome. To combat Rome's impressive defense we will have a balanced RPO attack.

Passing Game:

Pre-snap we will show WR movement to diagnose man/zone coverage. We will evenly distribute through the air to Metcalf/Lockett/Thielen/Hockenson in 3 Wide. We will also toss the ball to Mixon occasionally either with designed routes or delayed and out as well as use Robinson and White sparingly throughout the game.

When we get into 4 and 5 sets we will use Slayton and Gray respectively. In those sets we will also have designed runs for the QB as to not have the defense sell out for the pass.

Near the goal line we will sports some more 2TE sets with a rotation of Bellinger and Thomas next to Hockenson. The big bodied targets will provide solid threats against Rome's LBing core.

Running Game: Adding Peat, Linderbaum, Jackson and Brown helps shore up our run blocking for this season. Dak will have ample opportunity to change the play at the line to a run or pass play looking to take advantage of the stout trenches. Mixon will have 70% of the load while Robinson and White take the other 30%. We will pound the rock inside, flip it out wide, as well as feature double backs 2RB/2TE sets to throw more looks at Rome's defense. Dak also will have the ability to tuck and run it himself to get solid yards and move the chains.

Defense:

Rome lost Tyron Smith before the season began which causes some concern for the left side of Rome's protection. We will often plan to overload Herbert's blindside taking advantage of his replacement with edge rushers Ogbah, Lawson or Harris, we will also have a LBer cheat up on the left side when they are in 2 Wide (Flowers) and safety in 3 Wide to add extra rush and make Herbert get rid of the ball before he is ready.

In coverage we plan to play Press Man Coverage and jam the WRs at the line. Heyward and Moseley will operate on the outside. Sutton in the slot. McCreary and Oru will be in 4 and 5 wide sets. Clark will slide up in the box to cover the TE while Smith slides back to defend against the over the top throws. Wilson will play middle of the field while Shaq will spy the RB.

In 2TE sets, Smith will be asked to cover one with Wilson the other. This keeps Rome from trying to key on a defender each play.

Against the run we have added some additional beef up front with Hicks and Ogunjobi to pair with Watts and Hamilton. Both are dominant pass rushers, but also stuff the run. We look to hold the trenches and with Wilson playing mid and Shaq keying the LB with a scooted up safety, we look to stuff the run at the line of scrimmage.

Rome Eternals

Motivation

Starting off the season with divisional rival Hungary.  We missed the playoffs last year and our players won’t let it happen again

Offense

We are gonna spread the field with our WR corps.  This really establishes two things for us, one it lightens the box which will allow for much easier inside rushing, and two, puts our best 11 on the field against a team with a subpar front four

We will mainly be using hurry up here as we don’t think Hungary has much in terms of quality depth they can rotate in and with a mostly older defensive front, it favors us.  We have both slant man Michael Thomas and Mr First down Hunter Renfrow underneath to keep the chains moving while we have field stretcher extraordinaire Jaylen Waddle and the well rounded Amari Cooper on the outside.  We’ll generally move Renfrow in motion to determine coverage and allow for some trips formation when we see a zone being played to allow for flood concepts, seams and bubble screens.  We will also roll in Juju for some five wide looks to further  expose a light secondary group.  We likely won't throw at Casey Heyward much but we definitely have size advantages over most of these corners on the outside.

We have a really nice backfield duo of Swift and Harris that we will be using today with each back seeing about half the snaps.  We will mainly be using inside zones and draws from the four wide with an occasional pitch if we run trips against what appears to be zone and have a numbers advantage.

Up front we feel Hungary has some interior D line issues which plays into this running strategy as well as allowing  us to slide the line to a particular direction if a tackle starts having issues on the outside in pass pro.

In short yardage we will bring in Thomas and Uzomah for a two TE look and will also run a naked boot out of this after running a few times.

Defense

Hungary comes in with a really nice offense but for now our defense is actually healthy.  We’ve brought in Matt Judon and George Karlafitis to team up with the returning Marcus Davenport and last year rookie sensation Jaelan Phillips to provide an edge rotation we can move in and out consistently to keep everyone fresh without losing any quality.  Judon, Davenport and Phillips are all coming off 8.5+ sack seasons while GK looked awesome this preseason.  Denico Autry himself is coming off a 9 sack season while Dalvin Tomlinson does his normal space eating.  Tuttle will get some run on early downs for Autry with Hall sparing Tomlinson on obvious passing situations.  With our front four, we feel we can generate a good amount of pressure without having to blitz, especially with a couple sticky man corners who can buy them an extra second.

On the outside Hungary brings some very talented weapons but we love our corner trio.  We are going to put  Humphrey on Lockett to lock him down and Dean on Thielan to do the same.  DK Metcalf is a machine and we will use William Jackson on him with his plus speed.  Jackson will be playing inside leverage as he will have help over the top on every play from Grant Delpit as we plan on taking Metcalf away from the offense and depending on our other talent to win out.  Campbell will have the RB with Milano going one on one with Hockenson which would be a fun matchup to watch.    William Jackson gets the numnber four WR

Up front Hungary has a solid if unspectacular line.  We feel the guard position could be a weak spot and while highly touted, Linderbaum still has to prove himself in the NFL.  With Tomlinson lining up over McGovern, we feel we can get some push over the middle with Autry lining up in between Jackson and Linderbaum to eat up the doubles.  If they slant the line, we feel Autry will fly past Jackson on most pass rushing downs.  Hamilton plays the middle of the defense robber position where he has the free lance ability to play middle zone, spy Dak or blitz.  We will mix up the calls with him to keep the offense guessing as well as use the occasional cover three zone to not become too man dependant

I only brought it up as your referenced both in your wtite up

Your reason is your reason my dude. My base set is 3 Wide and I plan on looking 2 TEs near the end zone so, 4 and 5 wide wasn't happening at a high frequency anyways.

I really like Rome's offensive plan here against Hungary. On the other side of the ball, Hungary's skill guys didn't really show out this week and with the majority of the Hungary offensive line struggling a bit this week, I'm going with the Eternals.

Mostly ditto. Rome got my vote.

Herbert > Dak (that wasn’t it, but still)

I really think hungry is better than their a game plan really made is made people believe. I think people are still gearing up their energy because it is a long season and and so maybe that's what's going on here but I still like hungry's game plan overall.

Having said that, I think Rome has more success on offense with their gameplam in an extremely close game.
