Giving up a 2nd for say Aiyuk is fine IMO…they have 2 3rd and a 4th…hell they could trade both 3rd to get up into the mid to late 2nd if they really wanted to.

Look at it this way…as an example

1)Mims

2)Aiyuk

2b….using both 3rds…Van Pran

4)CB Hart Notre Dame

2025 needs…QB and DL

Completely hypothetical made up scenario just because I’m curious what people think.

Would you trade Alex Highsmith straight up for Aiyuk?

Roll with a rotation of Herbig and a 1 year stop gap like Clowney/KVN/Golden at edge.

IIRC Highsmith’s dead cap number would put us $10MM over so we would need a TJ restructure or Cam extension to get that done.

I will say this about Aiyuk… he might be the PERFECT role model for George Pickens. After a very promising rookie season, Aiyuk started his 2nd year on the bench behind Jauan Jennings because he wasn’t doing the little things (blocking, mastering the playbook, staying late after practice etc).

Now, Aiyuk is one of the hardest workers on the team and one of the best blocking WRs in the NFL who has made countless hustle plays and is a huge part of the 49ers success running the ball.

With the contracts given to WR this year we’re going to have to give him $25M/yr if we trade for him (look at the FA WR, even Juedy just got almost $20/yr). To do that we’ll need to restructure Cam and/or Highsmith, with next to no QB salary this year it works but where does it leave us next year?
