No. Denzel Ward got hurt and Emerson replaced him in the lineup.

He played over 70% of the snaps in Cleveland’s first 3 games last season, Ward was around.

Had a role immediately.

I would be interested in seeing who was listed as starters for Cleveland. I do think they gave the “starter” nod to a 3rd LB rather than a 3rd CB.

Starts are overrated I learned from Blue with Michael Davis. It’s all about snaps played.

I would add again I’m also incredibly high on Alontae Taylor and he’s got production to back it up.

Dennis Allen benched him when Paulson Adebo came back so I have no come back for that one.

They are competing for the number 2 spot right now so at least he will get a fair shot at that.

Hm, I saw Elam was announced as a starter in the playoffs and assumed it meant CB2, apparently not.

It's certainly possible.  Elam may have gotten a start on the outside but Johnson vastly outsnapped him while Elam played the same amount of snaps as Dane Jackson

Cliff notes: The bills secondary wasn't good at the end of the year

Cleveland ran a lot of big nickel with 3 S (JJ3, Delpit, Harrison) and when they went nickel Newsome kicked inside to the slot. JOK was supposed to be an apex but he would have been the third LB when they had Walker healthy, and he was a starter.

Emerson was solid when ge hit to starting lineup. Good man-to-man corner.

They ran almost zero man and played almost exclusively cover 3. He is an outside only guy.

To each his own. He became a starting boundary week 1 and moved Newsome to the slot. Also was battle tested as teams did go after him frequently. He held his own.

Newsome was a slot in nickel packages but usually started on the outside because he has more versatility.

Looking at the snap counts, Emerson played about 75% of the snaps weeks 1-3, they played ATL week 4 so Cleveland ran a lot more base 4-3 which kept Newsome outside. Walker getting hurt alters the snap counts because they played Jacob Phillips full time snaps until he got injured week 7.

Harrison for sure had a role but seems more like a true rotational guy as he only played  45% of snaps with JJ3 and Delpit healthy in 1 game (vs Dolphins, week 10).

And I like Emerson for the record. But again, Ward was hurt a bit and Greedy was hurt a lot. He is a lengthy outside only corner and did very well as a rookie last year.

Generally speaking, isn’t Ward solid in man? Newsome was an appealing man cover guy coming out of Northwestern IIRC.

Woods is a nickel/big nickel guy, so yeah, if you look at snap counts their 3 corners are all essentially going to be starters.

Week 2, the Browns saw mostly 3-4 WR sets vs the Jets.

You should read through why so many Cleveland fans wanted Woods out. He had 3 elite man corners drafted in Ward, Newsome, and Greedy and ran deep cover 3 with zero blitzing or presnap creativity and took Delpit as a box hybrid S and made him a worthless free safety and took an apex drafted JOK and made him a SAM and box linebacker. Dude was awful.
