Rick Smith is exactly what this league is about - make the owner money regardless of crappy product, hollow PR efforts. GM's don't work for the team, they work for the NFL - Rick Smith is good for money, good for PR - he stays regardless of the fact he's setting new standards of futility/longevity at GM spot. You won't even hear his name on hot lists because league won't allow Jerry Reese, Sashi Brown and Rick Smith to all be let go in one offseason. If you don't think the NFL Diversity and Inclusion weilds that kind of power, explain how completely unqualified Vance Joseph was gifted a job in Denver. BTW - see also the Shanahan PR machine. Once you start paying attention it is surreal how this family can do no wrong even when they very clearly do (RG3, Super Bowl). On cue - what a great job lil Shanahan is doing with this 2 win team, just like he did in Cleveland. They ought to show a highlight of his HB option call to tank a game when "OC" here, but that got sweeped from the resume just like destroying the career of the rookie of the year.
