Per Schefter, the Saints are looking to hire the 49ers Passing Game Specialist Klint Kubiak as the OC.  No deal can be finalized till after the Super Bowl though.

Sounds like it's all but official.

This guy is coming from a really good organization, and has a decent amount of experience for how young he is.
Without researching much, I like the move.

We could've said we'd use Madden Recommended plays and I would like the move as long as it wasn't Carmichael

I can get on board with that. Also, heard news on the Saints looking to restructure Carr's contract. Even is you do, and reduce the cap number by say 25M... we are still hurting.

Loomis is 3 years too late on fixing our books. Should've taken a bigger hit when Drew retired instead of going all-in on Winston and the defense. They have no realistic way to get cap compliant without restructuring at this point.

Restructuring Carr's contract pretty much marries him to the Saints for the next 5 years 😕

Honestly super excited for the Kubiak signing. It shows that the Saints are hopefully moving away from the nepotism of the previous era. Honestly...This might save Dennis Allens job and I'm not sure how to feel about it.

DA is a GREAT defensive mind. If he can just focus on that, and allow Kubiak to have complete autonomy of the offense, we might be cooking.

Who knows though... maybe a new OC helps Carr go from "average with flashes" to above average?

I always thought and still do that DA's ceiling is DC... perhaps with Kubiak by his side, he changes my opinion.

Yep, I don't think DA will be a great HC or anything but if Kubiak can be a Ben Johnson level OC and Dennis Allen continues to field an elite defense...I don't see why we can't win 10-11 games.

Some interesting things have happened/happening:

So we've all complained about how crappy the O-Line was this season.
Our offensive scheme was questionable for most of the season.
Our QB play was questionable until the last 5 games. Of course, new QB, new system, may take some adjustment time. You know, like Brock Purdy.........
Our WR's underachieved, big time.
And only 1 running back really did more than we'd expect.

Well, Doug Marone, the O-Line coach, has been fired, and the assistant O-Line coach, Kevin Carberry is going to the Buccs.
Obviously Pete Carmichael is out at OC, as well as Offensive assistant, Bob Bicknell. So in comes Klint Kubiak.
Our QB's coach, Ronald Curry is going to the Bills, so Kubiak is bringing in one of his guys as the new QB coach.
WR's coach Kodi Burns was fired at the same time as Carmichael and Bicknell.
And RB's coach Joel Thomas left to take the RB coach's job for the Giants.

That's 7 from the offense. I'm actually good with this. This really seems like the Saints staff really audited the situation, and made some good moves, and the other moves are fine.

So now we bring in (1) Kubiak as OC. He's apparently bringing in a QB coach (2).
It sounds like the Saints are interested in (3) John Benton as O-Line coach... not sure how I feel about that one.
The other 4 spots may be up for grabs, but a current coach may also be inserted into the O-Line coaching position. We'll see.

That's all I've got for now.

What would you guys say are the biggest needs in regards to the draft? My thought. Line, line, and more line. Offensive, defensive, just all the lines everywhere.

I think the Saints need new kickers too. Not necessarily from the draft, but a new kicker and punter. Both of those guys were buns last year.

I'd say the trenches for sure. As far as kickers go, I'd give each kicker a "prove you're better than last year" chance but definitely bring in competition.  I'd even give Kubiak some if not all autonomy to pick the staff on the offensive side and roll with it, anything will be better than last season.

Every mock draft I see has them taking a WR. I don't get it. They need line help. So what if Thomas leaves, he's been gone for years already lol. I mean, another WR would be nice, but not with the 14th pick.

I mean we got Perry in this past draft who looked good late in the season.  Really don't need a WR period.  I could almost understand going for Bowers due to just being BPA, but outside of that they probably need to go the best player available on the OL/DL

So, with the hire of Kubiak as OC, we all got our wish. Adios, Pete. Just curious though, ( I'm way too lazy to look), how many different OCs has Carr been under now in his career? It feels like he's had more OCs than years in the league lol.
