TL-TwoWinsAway
Trying this out. As nice as they are to look at, I think PWNY's are more a reflection of what has happened and not why those things happened. Net points are nice, but they alone don't really tell the story. I don't have a name for this yet, but I decided to list the teams in order of Net Yards, color coded by fumble luck (the percentage of available fumbles that said team recovers). The results are interesting: (RED = unlucky | YELLOW = neutral luck | BLUE = lucky) TEAM REC TOYDS ORNK TDYDS DRNK NETYDS NETRNK FUMA FUMR FLUCK FRNK FG% LR 7-2 3,808 1 3,135 1 673 1 13 3 0.23 19 85.71 NZ 4-5 3,602 3 3,152 2 450 2 13 4 0.31 18 87.50 IND 7-2 3,525 5 3,168 3 357 3 13 6 0.46 14 83.33 HAM 5-4 3,556 4 3,304 7 252 4 10 6 0.60 4 88.46 LAN 5-4 3,419 11 3,198 4 221 5 17 12 0.71 2 80.95 SCR 4-5 3,468 7 3,334 9 134 6 16 8 0.50 10 90.48 REY 6-3 3,617 2 3,499 15 118 7 8 4 0.50 11 88.24 CIN 3-6 3,296 15 3,218 6 78 8 13 7 0.54 6 91.67 EGY 4-5 3,376 12 3,310 8 66 9 8 3 0.38 16 93.33 BUR 3-6 3,252 16 3,203 5 49 10 18 9 0.50 12 86.36 ANC 4-4-1 3,489 6 3,473 14 16 11 17 11 0.65 3 73.68 GRE 6-2-1 3,452 9 3,451 12 1 12 18 9 0.50 13 77.78 FRE 5-4 3,366 13 3,421 11 -55 13 12 5 0.42 15 82.61 BUT 4-5 3,466 8 3,522 16 -56 14 9 2 0.22 20 91.30 LM 2-7 3,143 19 3,394 10 -251 15 14 5 0.36 17 80.95 PHO 6-3 3,349 14 3,613 17 -264 16 11 6 0.55 5 88.89 RIO 8-1 3,427 10 3,760 20 -333 17 19 16 0.84 1 87.50 TOK 1-8 3,057 20 3,471 13 -414 18 15 8 0.53 7 82.35 HAN 3-6 3,192 17 3,693 19 -501 19 17 9 0.53 9 94.12 WAT 2-7 3,143 18 3,684 18 -541 20 15 8 0.53 8 93.75 Compare to the PWNYs below: 5 hours ago, Tk3 said: Team PWNY Wins Loss Win % Net PF PA OR DR Rio de Janeiro Pirates 12.544 8 1 0.889 57 264 207 1 4 Little Rock Uni Royals 12.064 7 2 0.778 48 252 204 3 3 Hamilton Hornets 10.665 5 4 0.556 31 253 222 2 11 Indianapolis Predators 10.618 7 2 0.778 29 241 212 6 5 Greenland Polar Bears 10.078 6.5 2.5 0.722 21 220 199 10 1 Freiburg Venom 9.585 5 4 0.556 17 233 216 7 7 Reykjavík Direwolves 9.300 6 3 0.667 15 250 235 5 16 Phoenix Rubber Ducks 9.203 6 3 0.667 14 252 238 3 17 Scranton Papermakers 8.190 4 5 0.444 2 224 222 9 11 New Zealand Blobfish 8.092 4 5 0.444 1 232 231 8 14 Hanoi Viet Kongs 7.903 3 6 0.333 -1 218 219 11 9 Burlington Sock Puppets 7.254 3 6 0.333 -7 195 202 18 2 Egypt Starfalls 7.019 4 5 0.444 -10 210 220 13 10 Lancaster Fighting Amish 6.809 5 4 0.556 -12 206 218 15 8 Butte Bots 6.273 4 5 0.444 -17 197 214 17 6 Anchorage Amphibians 6.091 4.5 4.5 0.500 -20 208 228 14 13 Wattsville Waste Walruses 5.581 2 7 0.222 -27 216 243 12 18 Cincinnati Buffleheads 4.150 3 6 0.333 -44 201 245 16 19 Tokyo Samurai 4.106 1 8 0.111 -42 189 231 20 14 Lake Minnewanka Ice Orcas 3.301 2 7 0.222 -55 190 245 19 19 The top PWNY team, RIO, is 17th in net yards but is 1st in fumble luck, recovering 84% of all available fumbles. PHO is another team that stands out: they're 8th in the PWNY rankings but have the 16th fewest net yards and recover just over half of all available fumbles. The three teams at the top - LR, NZ and IND - have each drastically outgained their opponents and have won games despite having abysmal fumble luck. Takeaways: LR and IND are dominant, and NZ has had the unluckiest season so far: their bad fumble luck is undoubtedly the reason why they have a 4-5 record at this point in the season despite drastically outgaining their opponents.
TL-TwoWinsAway
I'll use the info above to try and predict the winners for this week, considering both net yards and fluck: Tokyo Samurai @ Hamilton Hornets New Zealand Blobfish @ Scranton Papermakers Greenland Polar Bears @ Phoenix Rubber Ducks Hanoi Viet Kongs @ Rio de Janeiro Pirates Cincinnati Buffleheads @ Little Rock Uni Royals Lancaster Fighting Amish @ Indianapolis Predators Reykjavík Direwolves @ Anchorage Amphibians Burlington Sock Puppets @ Butte Bots Wattsville Waste Walruses @ Lake Minnewanka Ice Orcas Egypt Starfalls @ Freiburg Venom (Eww.)
LAOJoe
It goes beyond just fumbles and I made some points in last week's rankings but Look at that Rio is the luckiest in that regard and LR is essentially tied for unluckiest.
TL-TwoWinsAway
Just now, LAOJoe said: It goes beyond just fumbles and I made some points in last week's rankings but Look at that Rio is the luckiest in that regard and LR is essentially tied for unluckiest. It's tough to say what really counts as "lucky", but I can't see how recovering fumbles is anything but luck. (Although I do think FG% is also relevant in all of this.)
TL-TwoWinsAway
EGY is an interesting one: 9th in net points, terrible FLUCK, high FG%. I can see them sticking around in the playoff race (based on that info alone).
