In preseason, it's optional (doesn't read as "mandatory fine"). The last day of preseason is September 1.

The values in the language are for 2020-21, but the chart that replaces those values don't change the values until 2026.

For the language specific to players on the fifth-year option, the rookie compensation article covers that.

Rookie contract players are fined, but the fines can be waived

Quote

A player who holds out during training camp, which opens in July, can be fined $50,000 per day, which is up from $30,000 under the previous collective bargaining agreement. The previous CBA also allowed teams to forgive accumulated fines once a deal was reached, but that is no longer an option unless the absent player is on a rookie contract.

I did not want him in Washington for the price in a trade.  Glad that he’s got an agreeable deal to stay in San Francisco, and all of the drama can finally be put to bed.  The Commanders can keep their first rounder, and use the cap space for another WR next off-season while still having McLaurin.

Gotta wonder what the next move with Trent Williams is.

To bend over and give him whatever he wants!

49ers could of actually been fine without Aiyuk. Not ideal but could of survived! They will go absolutely nowhere without Trent Williams.

He knows it and so does the FO.

Only singular question is , does he have the balls to pull a Emmitt Smith if they play hard ball?

Their ability to fine him says differently. The fine is for violating the contract. Retirement isn't a violation of the contract, that is an option a player has.

The fines are spelled out in the contract.

If someone's rent is due on the 1st, with a late fee charged if they don't pay by the 2nd, and they pay on the 2nd with the late fee included, they haven't violated the contract. Same thing here.
