He’s a 26 year old who was 2nd team all pro two years ago.

Yeah, he and nearly half the NFL’s starting backers got votes that year (13 total). He tied for 5th in voting (with 1 vote...) with 7 other linebackers (Mosley, Hightower, McKinney, Mercilus, David, Brown, Orr).

I get why the Giants made the trade, but Ogletree hasn’t been good in a while. You can point to Jenkins, who has obviously been a hit so far, but that doesn’t really mean anything at all as it pertains to this move. At least Jenkins was coming off of a strong season.

It’s not just Rams fans saying that the Rams made a smart move getting out of that contract. I like the deal for NYG too, they’re getting a good athlete there after years and years of trotting out some really bad LB corps. The fact that they can get out of the deal by 2019 is huge too.

He just currently isn’t a top 25 LB, so it’s really not surprising that you’re not going to get a ton of praise for going out and getting him with that contract.

No Rams fans criticized the Giants for signing Jackrabbit. We criticized Fisher and company for letting him go. Ogletree is a completely different story, especially if the plan is to keep him inside and switch to a 3-4.

Bettcher doesn't run a pure 3-4. He employs a multiple front. The fact that Olgetree has experience playing in a 3-4 at Georgia and 4-3 in LA makes him even more valuable to their defense. He also has ability as a blitzer, which is another reason he's a great fit - given Bettcher loves firing his backers. Well see how it plays out. If he does not play up to the contract the Giants are in a good position to cut ties without losing much. It's a good move for both teams. LA gets out of a bad contract for a player who doesn't fit their defense, and NY takes a low-risk high-reward gamble. All they gave up was an extra comp pick and a 6th rounder.

According to reports, the New York Giants and LB Alec Ogletree agreed to a restructured contract. The Giants will prorate Ogletree’s $7M roster bonus that was due today over the remaining four years of his contract. Ogletree’s cap figure will be reduced from $10M to $4.75M for the upcoming season. The Giants acquired Ogletree from the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for 2018 fourth and sixth-round picks.

Happy for Tree.. This is a guy who was a huge playmaker his first 2 years..

Dude had a nose for the ball.. But scheme wise he didn't fit. But if he can return to form he'll be steal.

He was so damm explosive.. Sorta reminds of a Dj williams or rams Will Witherspoon.. Way better as OLB than MLB..

He just isn't strong enough or sound enough to make tackles inside.

Well, it obviously depends. Schemes differ, and roles differ. Having Snacks Harrison upfront will certainly make things easier if they do. And he very well could be playing in a role that asks him to do more chasing and less plugging.
