  1. This all really good info. We are desperate at Safety. Sounds like Harris would be hard pressed to leave the Vikes, but if possible he'd be a great fit in Cleveland. Kearse is just the type of hybrid Safety we need. Anthony Harris, Jayron Kearse, Eric Wilson, C.J. Ham, and Andrew Sendejo in that order would all be players we could really use. If we hire George Paton, it could give us the capital to help recruit some of those players, but Spielman would likely win out in whatever situation he and the Vikes wanted to.
  2. 1a.) Scangs 1b.) the other TheFlower
  3. With the Vikings firing DeFilippo, they will now be the Browns biggest competition for Rich Scangarello (assuming they don't promote one of the Kubiaks) as Zimmers has stated that he wants to keep the same system intact. If I were us, I'd stay away from DeFilippo as it would be better for us to hire a QBC that has the zone, play-action philosophy at their core. That would allow us to groom a successor and also allow the QB training to integrate offensive understanding as well.
  4. Even though he was under fire for various things this season, I cannot believe Scangarello is available. It would be an unbelievable win to get him on the Browns staff and we need to at all costs. There couldn't possibly be a better fit as he's a developing talented QBC/OC that wouldn't likely need to call plays right away but instead collaborate for an extending period of time with Stefanski. Not only is he an elite QB coach according to many respected coaches in the league, but he's "Philosophically our approach is the zone run system, play action-system created and modernized by Mike Shanahan and grown under Kyle Shanahan phenomenally. I got my first start with that system under Tom Cable...." Kyle Shanahan originally blocked him from going to the Broncos as OC because "Rich's a tremendous QB coach and what he does for our offense can't be replaced." Shanahan then relented when he was assured by John Elway and Vic Fangio that Scangarello would get primary and full control of the play-calling, as well as have stability. Scangarello is familiar with the 49ers/Shanahan system (in Atlanta and San Fran) and he himself employs a heavy play-action, zone run scheme. He also does a good job integrating QB coaching with overall understanding of the offense as all good QB coaches do. He could come here and be QB Coach with OC upside allowing he and Stefanski to collaboratively lead the offense The Broncos maximized Brandon Allen as much as possible before enjoying breakout with Drew Lock. Flacco was washed. The overall offense numbers aren't great but there's was great development and coordination work done this year. His offense is a hybrid between the Shanahan offense with more RPO game utilized from his time as a college OC. Believes that the "easiest mismatch to make in the NFL is the RB and the LB and that has to be exploited all the time." Also, believes in the sameness of play presentation before variation like Kyle and Stefanski/Kubiak. https://thednvr.com/broncos-film-room-an-inside-look-at-the-offense-rich-scangarello-is-bringing-to-denver/ https://www.milehighreport.com/2019/11/8/20954589/film-rich-scangarellos-breakout-game. Mike McDaniel is an ivy league guy but has no OC experience and isn't a quality QB coach. I've spoken many times previously regarding how we cannot risk his battles with alcoholism derailing the Browns progress. Mike LaFleur is a great option, but Scangarello is just as good if not better of a candidate. Stefanski may have already decided who his OC/QBC would be as no one really knew Scangarello would be fired., but hiring him should be priority number 1 for Stefanski's staff. LaFleur or Scangarello would be a win... Scangarello and we really win I really hope Stefanski didn't finalize the position(s) yet. -------------------------- --------------------------- Joe Wood had a top 10/top 5 Defense his first year as Coordinator that was number 1 against the pass. Von Miller and Chris Harris raved about him. Starting Stefanski's staff off with Scangarello and Wood would be special.
  5. You miscategorized my post as being anti-analytics. I clearly in that post multiple times separated the head coach collaborating with the analytics department as a positive ("That's something that we as fans should be excited about") AND the Ownership component (i.e., the coaches submitting gameplans to ownership) as a clear negative "beginning of the end." My reasoning being that JW, Jimmy, Dee, and the long octopi reaching arms of the "ownership group" getting detailed game-plans could lead to a slipper slope of disaster. That's because Jimmy and/or others who think they are experts will insert themselves in unhealthy and negative ways into the process. And who knows what hands that stuff can get into or how sloppy they'll be with that type of information. On Friday, the hay is in the barn. The game-plan and scripts are set. Small tinkering takes place. If Jimmy/ownership want to then take Friday or Saturday to talk things through or suggest things or whatever they plan to do with the game-plan it's wasted bandwidth and distracted energy that the Head Coach or Assistant Coaches don't need to deal with. We all read reliable pieces regarding the side-juries and side-line convos he likes to have about anything and everything he thinks he can gain expertise about. Once again, the analytics department and coaches collaborating is something to celebrate (as long as the collaboration is collaborative and not things being dictated to be changed between Friday and Saturday); the ownership review component has all the makings of Truckstop Jimmy special.
  6. I completely agree that we shouldn't invest top LB money for Joe even though I love everything he does for the team. We're going to have some really tough decisions financially soon and that's going to be a contract we regret as Joe's play/ability falls off in 3-years. If we must pay him, front-load the money in the first 2 years, although Franchising him may sound wild to some, it's a great idea assuming that would allow us to keep a high quality LB for a year until we can find another solution. He'd then be allowed to walk the following year if necessary.
  7. Heck has the intuitive feel to just get guys blocked. He's my 17th ranked tackle. Height of an Tackle doesn't matter as much as Arm length and Playing with length to me. Shorter height, with longer arms, hand strength, lower center of gravity, and technique are optimal. It's just taller human beings typically have longer arms, wingspans, and reach. From the tape, Muti's arms don't appear to be all that long, but they aren't short guard arms either. In the games where Muti was a Left Tackle, he played with Length knowing instinctively how to keep rushers of all varieties on the outside. Imo, his best position will be as a Center, but I believe in what I've seen him put on film at various positions that I think he'll be a pro-bowl Left Tackle and Left Guard as well. Much like Wirfs who I see as an All-Pro Guard but a High Quality Tackle, I see Muti as an All-Pro Center/Guard but a High Quality Tackle. Balance, combat balance, feel of when to strike, his anchor, instinctually playing with length, knowing how to use the length he does possess, hand strength, etc... those are the qualities that lead me to believe that he can plug and play at LT and be one of the best tackles in the draft.
  8. If this is true, this is the beginning of the end. I can understand the Haslam's feeling as though the Head Coach had to have some accountability for game planning, especially after Freddie reportedly gave no F*cks, but WTF are Jimmy, Dee, and JW going to do with the game-plans besides feel the need to interfere and F-things up. This is madness. Being a head coach is hard enough. You don't want the coaches to feel like ownership is prying into every part of the football operations. The team and coaches need the space to do their thing. I can understand the Analytics department collaboration. That's something that we as fans should be excited about. Our HC will have a foundation of situational and opponent data from which intuitive decisions can be made. Information gets out... you don't know people's motivations in their current job placement so you want the gameplan in the hands of as few people as possible and mostly people who's jobs or livelihood would be on the line if the team doesn't perform well (coaches and players). You don't want detailed gameplans flying around various computers/personal devices, and in people's possessions. The word "turn in" is a little wild. Hopefully Dustin Fox is just being sour grapes regarding his guy McDaniels not getting the job. It absolutely makes sense for the Head Coach to collaborate with the analytics on game planning, situational calls, or what the the opposing team likes to do, but (if true) this seems like Jimmy and co. could really F-this up.
  9. Mike Vrabel had Jon Robinson serving as GM/President of Football Ops recruiting and helping him assemble a staff. He also played in the league for BIg Coaching Tree Organizations like the Patriots, Steelers, and Chiefs; and coached for the Texans and Ohio State. Andrew Berry doesn't command the same type of weight that a Jon Robinson does, and he can't formally recruit until he gets the job. The Brad Childress and Leslie Frazier are neither currently active, of high quality, or expansive except for a few people. Zimmer's first set of assistants were those retained from the Leslie Frazier era; the 2nd set many were either not well regarded or still employed by Zimmer or lock-down elsewhere. There are a few out there like Bill Callahan, but it's not a substantive list of high quality coaches likely to be available. Part of that has to do with the timing of the hire; the other part will have to do with Stefanski and Berry's limiations.
  10. Man .... I've searched high and low for Strong Safety's/Box-Safety Playmakers in the 2020 Class.... Unfortunately, saying that this class is true buttcheeks would actually be kind. It hurts to watch so many players just be JAGs or even below that. Most of the guys can't help the Browns ever and that's not me being a tough evaluator. We're going to have to get a SS via free agency or trade most likely as Derrick Kindred coming into the draft dwarfs the abilities of the vast majority of the class. I honestly think Grant Delpit is a mid-2nd round prospect, but as not many else do I won't include him. As a result, I honestly don't see any SSs of value until the 3rd or 4th round. I also see Xavier Mckinney as a physical Free Safety so I'll leave him off the list as well. The 2 that I Believe In -- Developmental High Quality Starter Upside: 1.) Jalen Elliott, SS Notre Dame (3rd-5th Round) 2.) Antoine Winfield Jr., FS/SS Minnesota (3rd-5th Round) The 4 that I Want to Believe In -- Developmental Quality Starter Upside: 3.) Kyle Dugger, SS Lenoir-Rhyne (3rd-6th Round) 4.) Antoine Brooks Jr., SS Maryland (4th-6th) ** 5.) Patrick Nelson, SS SMU (5th-7th; ** Will be DePo's guy; had 15+ TFLs and 12.5 Sacks his final year; unbelievable heart but alligator arms and lacks athleticism to bet on being a major factor in the pros) 6.) Jeremy Chinn, SS Southern Illinois The 4 that are Meh But Flash a Lot on Film -- Quality Contributor with Some Long-Term Developmental Starter Upside: 7.) Greg Eisworth, SS Iowa State (6th-UDFA) 8.) Javon Hagan, SS Ohio (6th-UDFA) 9.) Jovante Moffatt, SS Middle Tennessee State (6th-UDFA) 10.) Javin White, SS UNLV (6th-UDFA) Honarable mention: Khaleke Hudson, SS/LB Michigan (7th-UDFA; Looks slow on film at LB, but he's so instinctual and competitive fire; He could run a really bad time; his speed is so hard to judge on film; if he can test well and move well in agility drills he's worth UDFA spot at least)
  11. They're young man and have experiences limited to a handful of franchises and quality coaching trees. Stefanski is all Vikings. Berry Colts, Browns, Eagles. A lot of their years when they did work with people they often didn't have power or influence in the organization. I'm just saying the depth of relationships, the multitude of quality coaching trees interacted with, and the belief in their longevity with the Browns are things that quality candidates for our job openings may question. It's not fatal, but it's a limiter.
  12. Yep, it sucks. We need a GM a sap to help Stefanski recruit a staff. Was always going to be a potentially rough one to see Berry and Stefanski get guys in here. Hopefully, they can outperform expectations.
  13. Who knows... Have heard both. Stefanski was the candidate that easily allowed the bringing back of Andrew Berry. All other candidates reportedly had their own GM. Likely other candidates would've brought in their own DC. Continuity and familiar faces seems like a motivation in the moves. Maybe it's just coincidence but it could be directed from truckstop
  14. Scangarello is a fantastic QB coach. To hire him as QBC with OC upside in the event that Stefanski needs to just be HC would be nice. I don't know if the players believe in Wilks still. He laid a lot of eggs but had good games as well. Seems like the Haslams really didn't want to change much. It would be better to change now if there is to be change.
  15. It doesn't have anything to do with Dorsey in my mind. It's about Berry on his own merits. That doesn't mean Andrew can't be a great GM for us but it deserves scrutiny imo. Scheme fit is an important and critical consideration in evaluation and roster construction... and more so at certain positions. Drafting Vince Wilfork to play 3-tech would not be a quality decision when other scheme fit quality players are on the board. It wouldn't make it a better decision just b/c Wilfork makes for a quality 34 player. Aaron Donald is all-time great and his impact transcends scheme, especially in Phillips' 34 which is a lot different than other 34s and moved him all over the field. Evaluating Scobert as pro 34-OLB is a misevaluation. He went on to change body type and thrive in another scheme but not every player has that opportunity. .
  16. One thing about losing Dorsey and hiring an unproven Head Coach is we may have to go back to overpaying for talent to get them here during Free Agency. It felt like with Dorsey and the talent he acquired we were starting to become a potential preferred free Agency option. I do think the Berry hire breathes new life into Joe Schobert and David Njoku and maybe even Rashard Higgins (on a team-friendly deal).
  17. It's within our grasps to have 2 picks fall into our laps that will give us long-term quality solutions. Doubling down in Free Agency at Guard will help solidify the OLine a ton. 1st Round: Jedrick Wills Jr., RT Alabama // Tristan Wirfs, OG/OT Iowa // Netane Muti, LT/OC/OG Fresno State 2nd Round (OR Via Trade-Up): Mekhi Becton, RT Lousville // Prince Tega-Wanogho, LT Auburn // Jack Driscoll, RT Auburn
  18. One thing about Andrew Berry and/or our front office the first time that people seem to forget. The first year we drafted Carl Nassib and Emmanuel Ogbah as 34-DEs and Joe Schobert as a 34-ILB/OLB. I've said it multiple times then and after that those decisions made no sense as none of those players at those positions were scheme fits. Nassib was a wide-9, 43-Rush end; Ogbah 43-DE, and Schobert a 43-LB. They were thrown out in those positions and they all struggled. They all then thrived after the scheme change. Who knows who was responsible for those decisions, but that always worried me as being indicative of a core misunderstanding of player-fit. By all accounts, Andrew Berry is a bright and talented evaluator, but he's not the first choice I'd paire with Stefanski if we can help it. Ed Dodds still for the win
  19. Part of me wonders if OBJ and Landry would welcome a different WR coach. OBJ clashed with Henry in NYC; and I don't know Landry's thoughts. Now, whether or not moving on from Henry would help improve WR-coaching or play is a whole different matter.
  20. I wonder what made us not hire McDaniels... was it his past, or was it that we didn't want to make major organizational decisions? I doubt we'll ever know, but the idea that it came down to Stefanski, Saleh, and Daboll is an interesting one. I thought it was going to be Daboll.
  21. If the intent and purpose of @AngusMcFife comment was the sh*tty way it can be perceived, then someone saying something to push back against that type of knuckle-dragging idiocy isn't a person freaking out and I shouldn't be (and don't think I would be) the only one on saying something or pushing back on that time of foolishness. I just read that post right now and I perceived it as him questioning the subtext/intent/motive behind @Aztec Hammer 's post about the wonderlic and not necessarily that he actually ascribes to such 'friend of whitehooded-derp' beliefs. If that's the case, then I'm all good with it. If I'm right, then @AngusMcFife just hold that L man and don't try to punch down for happiness. There is no peace or relief from that trash yall put on the field yesterday. Wallow in it. Marlon Humphrey said it best, yall are all choke-artists. We'll see you next year with a healthy OBJ and Landry for the Dub. If I'm wrong in my perception of that response to the "wonderlic post," then truly get the f*ck outta here.
  22. Ok thanks. I think you're right that Gary Kubiak is done with the primary coordinator or HC life burnout. If hiring Klint gets Gary here, it may be worthwhile for the Browns to do so, but who can know for sure.
