The Good, the Bad, the Mark Davis' Haircut vs the Packers

I could sense the disappointment from @Silver&Black88 the other week. You know the drill boys. I missed a lot of the game so help me out.

Good:

  • Cooper's catch. He is going to have an awesome year under Gruden.
  • Hurst/Hall/Key all showed flashes of being viable pass-rushers.
  • Seems to be a weekly thing here but Warren produced again. I would love to see him start next week so we can see him vs #1s.
  • Jelly was all over the place.
  • Calhoun, Brown and Cowser all did well too. Theres going to be some tough cuts on the D-line.
  • Our D has only let up 35 points in 3 games thus far. Yes it's only PS but KNJ would have given up 70+ easy.

Bad:

  • If Carr leads him more, it's a TD. Carr's deep ball is poor.
  • Melvin was getting picked on hard.
  • EJ Manuel doesn't look good enough to be a #2 QB.
  • Our starting T's did not look good. Penn got absolutely worked.

Ugly:

  • Connor Cook has come down to earth.
  • FAR too many penalties.
  • The dirt infield.
  • The ridiculous new helmet rule and "defenceless WR".

I missed most of the first drive and didn't see the end so I didn't know we won til this morning.

Good is we got to see Martin. The depth at RB, DL and CB is the best we've seen in a while and I'm sure to be unhappy come cut time. Guys stepped up when they needed to step up. A lot of cuts might come down to who can contribute on ST or not.

There really wasn't much good and it's been the most difficult pre-season to watch. Hoping Gruden comes out week 1 with an unstoppable offense because we're not seeing enough to know what we've got. Though neither are the other teams able to prepare for us.

So much Bad. Don't know where to start so straight to....the UGLY

TE Brown with holding. Lowering helmet rule. Penn at RT. Back up QB play, just to name a few...

Overall I think were a playoff team if healthy. Carr goes down and were top 10 pick/ top 5 if early in the season.

What I'm looking forward to is seeing all the weapons being schemed to create opportunities on offense. Lynch, Martin, Richard all different. Cooper, Nelson, Bryant and Cook with some others filling in where needed. Just need to keep Carr upright and on point. I understand not wanting to overwhelm the rookie with switching sides but have to wonder if EGO of drafting Miller is getting in the way of what's best for the team. I'm sure the coaches have the bigger picture in mind and I'm just overly worried about Penn. He'll be fine with more reps.

On defense I'm looking forward to seeing pressure and knowing if a CB gets injured that a walk on FA will not be our starter. Melvin, Worley, Conley, Nelson, DRC, Wright all before Hamilton IMO. Dline depth is so good I could see then cutting Irvin to have cap for Mack contract.Which IMO would suck and not feel right as he really has stepped up to be a mentor to Key. Saving 8 million this season and 9 mil next season.

Edwards 1.9

Carradine 1.25   (1,150,000 guaranteed)

Rucker 1.

Key under 1 mil per for 4 seasons.

Calhoun .555

Brown .48

Cowser .63

All those guys combined are under 7 million. Irvin will cost over 17 mil over the next 2 seasons but the past two seasons has only given us 15 sacks.

As a business decision I'm only keeping Irvin if I'm trading Mack. As soon as Mack signs I cut Irvin to allow him to get on another team ASAP. It's wrong but it's still a business.

As a business I'm probably keeping Tank cause it's guaranteed, Key because of potiential and price, Calhoun and Brown. Rucker might make it because of vet presence to help mentor because of Irvin cut. I want to keep Edwards but dead cap isn't too bad and I haven't seen him show up as much as the other young guys.

So what's really UGLY is it's a business...

Was only able to watch here in there, but the OT's didn't look good. Especially Penn.

Cook didn't look good at all to me. I prefer EJ, but if Carr misses any significant time we'll be screwed. Maybe that's why Carr isn't playing much at all?

I'm quite excited about the DLine though. Looks good and Mack isn't even out there yet.

Melvin didn’t get picked on hard and he’s been good all pre season. Lost footing on the one but recovered nicely the rest of his time in

Think he gave up back shoulder catch (was called for DPI) but like you say he wasn’t abused.

PFF OAK Raiders

For the second time in three preseason games, the highest graded player was LB Marquel Lee with a 91.2 grade against the Packers. Through games played on Friday, Lee's 92.5 overall grade this preseason ranks first among linebackers that have played 40 or more snaps

#Raiders linebacker Jason Cabinda played his best game of the preseason with a 90.9 overall grade against Green Bay, and a 90.6 run defense grade. Cabinda also excelled in coverage, allowing only one reception for five yards in 25 coverage snaps

Cabinda outplaying Victor at this point.

This is a bad narrative. Carr couldn't step into a collapsing pocket on that throw.

The martavis throw was like 55-60 yards in the air. Not many qb's can even throw it that far to begin with. It's hard not only to lead the guy, but to put it between two defenders that deep.

I wouldn't want Lee in over DJ on 3rd down. DJ will be a 3rd down specialist. As he should be.

Is it more that we could use Morrow as the 3rd down specialist with Whitehead. That roster spot and money could be used elsewhere ? DJ isn’t going to play STs so needs to be a significant upgrade in coverage to be worth a roster spot. I like Morrows potential tbh.
