It's not as good for this year because it limits your cap space for this year and they keep a roster spot. However, it's much better for the long term because you clear out all that space next year which helps for FA signings. I'll put it this way...I have never just cut a guy so he could sit on my roster. However, I have double downed a ton of players. Including Jameis Winston last year.
