You're an OC. What kind of offense do you run?

One that would have the guys practicing alot of 3rd and long situations because I can assure you they would be seeing alot of them with me in charge.

So... Loggains' plan when he was an OC for Chicago? Lol

This is a pretty cool topic.

I'm unqualified, but it would depend on the strengths of my QB and personnel. But...Assuming I have a competent vet  QB that doesn't have dynamic athletic ability or top tier touch on deep throws, I would likely run a spread WCO. A lot of similarities to IND with Manning, just a major talent disparity between the two.

Call pass plays primarily, based on what the vet QB sees he can audible to right or left runs or hot routes in the case of soft coverage/obvious Blitzer somewhere. Probably would be easiest to do stretch plays but have to have variance or defenses will pick up.

If no elite traits general (realistic) prerequisites would be-

- QB would be smart and accurate on short passes, as he will likely rely on some YAC. Uses a lot of motions to try and see glimpses if they are running man/zone, if they can open up a single coverage where we have an advantage, etc. Needs to keep from turning the ball over.

RB needs to be a competent receiver, and be able to keep up with audibles. Idc if he is a power runner or speedster, just whoever can catch with regularity, generate some YAC and has solid ball security. A poor man's Forte for example.

WRs need either size or speed, but besides having good hands they must be able to generate YAC. Can be 2 yards per catch from running hard through contact or being elusive. I want at least 1 burner and one big body though that can run slants with regularity.

TE probably will be a more in-line player. Able to threaten for 5-10 yards consistently but never going to put up a major statistical season, I want him to be a good blocker as he will be used for that both on the line and downfield, likely as a lead blocker at times too. I prefer a really good receiving TE but the inline one should be easier to find immediately.

My OL will probably all be college OTs, primarily LTs, minus the chance of drafting a Nelson or Mangold for example. OTs the best athletes in space, C the smartest and most consistent anchor (have to try to hold of tanks that are 330 lbs without collapsing a pocket), and OGs likely more heavy footed but technically sound.

The QB will be paramount to success, as there is no elite players around him to rely on. Make the smart throw for 8 yards over the big time 30 yard gamble, get the ball out fast to keep the OL from being overwhelmed, and play to attack weak spots. If they overload one side a bit too much, change to a run away from it. If you can get a burner on a LB or aging CB, don't be afraid to make them respect the deep throw if there isn't help over the top. If they try to condense the defense then attack vertically or off of a double move. Always have a hot route ready, as a 3 yard gain beats an incomplete or sack. Sometimes the hot read will break one. Try to make throws easier by attacking various ways, like a level concept on one play, heavy screen to another, RPOs, etc. To make up for talent disparities you have to outsmart them, so if the QB is making bad choices them we would be screwed. Try to vary hard counts in a lot to slow jumping the snap, and if someone bites then throw deep.

Don't make mistakes, chip away, fight until the whistle blows. Good things will happen.

Then add some damn talent ASAP.

I would probably put together an offensive system/playbook that is a hodgepodge of spread offense variations.

WRs: like a diverse set of skill-sets
RBs: preference for smaller backs who are quick and agile
TEs: two guys who are athletic, receiving targets, two guys who are blocking specialists, one of whom may line up at FB from time to time.
OL: move well in space, pass-pro over maulers.

Not a kill-the-clock type offense. Active and up-tempo style all the way, like if there were a Tampa-2 of offenses.
