Camden Hood Rats

Offense (4 wide base)
This week we take on a Singapore team whose owner we really like (despite how he feels) and we respect the talent he brings on defense. With a defense bringing so many weapons we've decided to change some things up on offense to confuse and hopefully stifle the game plan of our opponent. Here are some of our keys to victory.
4 wide base- While not really a weak spot, we think the most vulnerable part of this team is it's pass defense. We have some really good receiving options for Jackson and we think by spreading the field out we can limit exotic blitzes and force Singapore to be a little more transparent with their coverage. The less things for our QB to work through, the better. We'll use the prototypical Pats passing attack with lots of high % throws, lots of crossing patterns and rubs to force defenders to fight through traffic and give Jackson open targets to fire at.  Spreading the field out like this also gives the RPO game that we plan to mix in (25-30%) some more space to operate in. My recent 2 TE sets allowed defense to stay a bit heavier and keep players closer to the box, this will do the opposite and give our RB's and Jackson room to break off big plays.

Protecting Jackson- With Sing Sing bringing Aaron Donald to the interior we want to make sure Jackson doesn't get too much harassment from the middle. We know Donald is going to get his, and parts of our int OL have been criticized so we think we can do a couple things to protect ourselves. 1) Keeping our RB's in during the passing game to focus on helping protect Jackson from interior pressure 2) Attacking a lighter interior with a few powerful RB's. Wearing those guys down in a power run game can be beneficial for us in the passing game.

Attacking the pattern matching- As Nick Saban and Bill Belichick have made popular recently, Singapore battles bunch and trips concepts with pattern matching. It's not a zone per se, but instead defenders will be responsible for certain patterns. One guys takes out routes, one guy takes in breaking routes, so on and so forth.  So when in trips and bunch sets, expect us to let more than one guy run similar patterns, obviously at slightly different levels of the field but similar enough to hopefully cause some confusing in the matching and giving us some open players. Out and ups stacked on top of actual out routes are an example of this.

Defense (4-3 base cover 6/cover 3 shell)
Singapore, like on defense, brings a talented and physical offense to the field. Our defense finally looks healthy so we've got some ideas how to attack these guys.
4-3 base- With Singapore's best offensive set (in our minds) being the 12 sets with Gordon and Allen on the outside we decided with our LB's healthy to not allow Singapore to overpower us and have a 3 LB base. As I'll explain in our coverage section, this should help us defend a strong run game in addition to keeping the Singapore TE's from roaming free. Should Sing Sing decide to spread the field a little more Justin Coleman would come in for Jewell in a nickel set.

Cover 6 shell- In the past we've deployed lots of cover 1 and 2 zones to battle our opponents. Those could be a detriment to us this week as our opponent brings a heavier front with 2 TE's who are capable receivers. The cover 6 is a hybrid zone that allows us to shift responsibilities of our deep coverage depending what side of the hash the defense is on. The pluses here are it allows a safety on the wide hash to split his coverage assignment with a deep corner, giving him more ability to come up and stop the run or passes out of the backfield. The other big plus here is it eliminates those weak spots in the zone that Waller and Graham would normally be able to take advantage of. When SirA wants to mix in a 3rd WR we'll throw more traditional cover 3 zones at Rodgers with a nickel back in Justin Coleman coming in to work . Here is a snapshot of what the cover 6 shell looks like.

Zone blitzes- Like any great QB, you can't just let them sit back and pick you apart. While our pass rush is strong (in our minds) we think mixing in some zone blitzes to get after Rodgers is a good idea. Darius Leonard is back this week, and has shown an ability to time blitzes as good as any off ball LB in the league racking up 7 sacks his rookie season so expect us to incorporate attacking with Leonard on top of stunts from the defensive line to make things harder on Rodgers.

Singapore Sentinels

Offense

Camden has an excellent defensive front.  However, they have poopie DBs and that’s where we will attack.

We are going to rotate Bell and Conner with Bell getting 60-65% of the snaps.  We want Bell to get at least 15-18 touches and Conner to get 10-12. Their defensive line likes to get upfield quickly, so we are going to run plenty of draws, traps and screens.  Our OTs are very athletic, so we want to get them blocking out in space. For our standard runs, we are going to run mostly zone plays as Hicks likes to shoot gaps and get upfield which opens up running lanes behind him.

4 WR - Our base set for this game, we will have Rodgers in shotgun most of the time to make sure he has time against a good defensive front.  Both our RBs excel in shotgun as well. We will use our bunch set again so our WRs can get a free release. We want to use a lot of crossers, slants, WR screens to supplement our rushing game and get the ball out quickly.  We will run more draws and screens in this set as our rushing attack. Our RB will chip before going out on their route. Davis will rotate in to keep guys fresh.

We will put a man in motion to give Rodgers information pre-snap.  If they are in man, we will use our bunch to rub off defenders and get quick hitting crossing routes and option routes that Rodgers excels at.  If it is zone, we will use those bunches to flood a zone and give Rodgers a more open target.

We will target every member of the secondary regardless of who is covering who.  All our WRs will run every kind of route...but Davis and Hardman will typically stretch the defense vertically while Gordon and Allen do all the dirty work.  But we want to give Mecole a couple quick slants or WR screens that he could break for a big gain.

3 WR - We are going to use this set maybe 5% of the time because we don’t want both the Camden LBs on the field.  Waller will come in and be used as a fullback. This allows us to give our RB a lead blocker in short yardage situations.

2 TE - We use this set maybe 20% of the time with Waller and Graham.  We are going to use them both as additional blockers. When we have a lead late in the game, we will use this set to grind out the clock.  Graham will be the TE on the line and Waller will serve as a FB. And we will just grind out the game.

Gordon/Moore and Allen will be our WRs.  If Camden tries to put an 8th man in the box in this set, we will throw it deep to one of these two.  We trust Gordon and Moore to either win deep when one-on-one or Allen to win a jump ball or back shoulder throw.  And a single high safety won’t be much use as none have the speed to get over and help in time. This inability to get a numbers advantage in the run game will help us grind out these late longer drives to aid our defense and close out the game.  We will run

Defense -

We have two goals.  Shutdown Montgomery and shut down the deep ball.

Base - Camden loves their base set.  Donald and Harris are penetrators in they middle. Their OL is not good enough to handle this.  We will rotate our DL guys in if needed(including Edge guys playing inside on passing downs), but we want this DL on the field as much as possible.  This front will annihilate their OL and shut down Montgomery. They will have to keep their TE in to block otherwise Jackson might die. Jaylon will follow Monty everywhere and key in on the run game to ensure they can’t run.

Jones takes Walker.  Waynes and Jones play man as LCB and RCB.  Jackson and Johnson play deep halves and bracket their WRs.  Lamar doesn’t do as great when he can’t push the ball down the field.

We are going to play two man under in nickel with Jones following Walker, Jaylon keying on Monty, and our safeties taking deep halves. McCourty will cover Engram.

If Aaron Rodgers had been throwing to Keenan Allen with Denzel Ward on the bench, I feel like Allen would've had more success irl.

I gotta knock Allen for his lack of production. Having said that if it weren't for inactives for Camden I'd like this matchup better but Ward being injured still is significant to me.

I think because of LJs ability this is a roller coaster game but based on gameplans I suspect late in the game Bell and Conner will be very effective. I'm gonna give the nod here to Singapore by a very very close margin. I just trust that QB/RB combination more in the late game.

21-20 Singapore

Injuries derail Camden in this one. Singapore attempts some nice versatility from week to week. One week the offense featured the FB in base, then another week it’s a four wide. However one has to take into consideration can an offense become a master of anything or a jack of all trades master of none when scheme changes so drastically week to week. Just something to think about going forward.

I think Camden needs to embrace the fact that Lamar's best trait is running, should feature that aspect. (He can't get hurt in a BDL game, right?)  Lackluster defensive strat from Singapore makes this closer than it should have been with the continuing defensive injury woes for the Rats.  Lasher almost steals one with effort.

I was hoping someone would see this without me having to point it out, rather than just see injuries and insta-vote me down.
