The 14 teams who need to win out for bowl eligibility - who can we write off?

Entering this week there were still 14 teams whose bowl eligibility was up in the air. 13 of those teams play their season finales this week. The 14th, Army, has two games left and needs to win them both to become bowl-eligible.

Some teams have a good chance of getting the win they need, others are about 50/50, and others still will probably wait until next year.

Let's see which teams have good, so-so, and bad chances of being bowl-eligible. Right now 78 teams have clinched a possible bowl invite. 6 of them clinched this week. Another 3 have been eliminated.

Clinched
Boston College - defeated 7-4 Pittsburgh
Kent State - defeated 6-5 Eastern Michigan

Liberty - defeated 2-9 New Mexico State
Michigan State - defeated 3-8 Maryland
Mississippi State - defeated 4-7 Ole Miss

Ohio - defeated 0-11 Akron

Eliminated
Nebraska - lost to 8-3 Iowa
Oregon State - lost to 9-2 Oregon
TCU - lost to 4-7 West Virginia
Troy - lost to 10-1 Appalachian State

So-So
North Carolina - plays 4-7 NC State

Bad
Army - plays 8-4 Hawaii and 8-2 Navy
Colorado - plays 10-1 Utah
UL Monroe - plays 9-2 Louisiana

Key
Italics - team succeeded in becoming bowl-eligible
Strike-through - team failed in becoming bowl-eligible

So yeah, up to 8 of these teams could very well win, and only 2 bowl eligible teams would be left out as a result.

The MAC bowl picture is now pretty clear.

The MAC has 5 tie-ins.

4 of their bowl-eligible teams have 7 wins or more and are pretty much guaranteed a bowl.

That means one of the MAC's bowls will have to decide which 6-6 team they want. The fifth MAC bowl team will come down to Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Ohio and Toledo.

Nebraska has been garbage all year. Kinda glad they won’t make the conference look bag in their bowl game.

Agreed.

Melvin Gordon going for 408 yds and 4 TDs on Nebraska was the funniest beatdown I've ever watched.

79 teams are bowl eligible.

Only one team, likely a 6-6 G5 team, will miss out.

Only one other season has seen just one bowl eligible team left out. That was 2004. Akron was the only eligible team not invited that year. That year Clemson and South Carolina declared themselves ineligible after both teams were involved in a brawl during their game. Akron made a bowl the next year.
