No, it's not. The last time Warren Sapp played was in 2007. That was over 10 years ago. The league has changed substantially since then. BTW, that's one lineman, and even in the 90's he was way heavier than the average starter.

Is there even 1 in Bills like 50 years in the NFL? Just 1. BB's praise of Manning could be unique, likely. But Manning did call his own plays a lot too so this is an honest appraisal. TecmoSuperJoe
Quote Linemen have been getting heavier, faster. From 1942 to 2011, they have gained an average of three-quarters of a pound to two pounds a year, about twice the average gain for all N.F.L. players, according to a study published in The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. Another study showed that the average weight of offensive linemen ballooned 27 percent, from 249 pounds in the 1970s to 315 pounds in the 2000s, as the passing game evolved. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/17/sports/football/the-nfls-obesity-scourge.html Yup, dudes be gaining stones. The RB position would be obvious, but still counts.

TecmoSuperJoe
Someone had a nice breakdown on the weight progression of OL guys through the history of the league: Quote In the 1920s, the average offensive lineman was 6-foot-0, 211 pounds. In the 1930s, the average offensive lineman was 6-foot-1, 220 pounds. In the 1940s, the average offensive lineman was 6-foot-1, 221 pounds. In the 1950s, the average offensive lineman was 6-foot-2, 234 pounds. In the 1960s, the average offensive lineman was 6-foot-3, 251 pounds. In the 1970s, the average offensive lineman was 6-foot-3, 255 pounds. In the 1980s, the average offensive lineman was 6-foot-4, 272 pounds. In the 1990s, the average offensive lineman was 6-foot-4, 300 pounds. In the 2000s, the average offensive lineman was 6-foot-4, 313 pounds. In 2011, the average offensive lineman is 6-foot-5, 310 pounds. Yes, there were outliers like Bubba Paris in the 1980's at 300 pounds, but the point is that the average offensive lineman and defensive lineman were smaller. This dude literally just showed that lineman are up almost *70* pounds since the 70's. You are just flat wrong on this. And showing 1 off examples is a terrible attempt. 5 minutes ago, PapaShogun said: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/17/sports/football/the-nfls-obesity-scourge.html Yup, dudes be gaining stones. TecmoSuperJoe
BTW, looking back at someone like Fred Dean as a defensive end at 230 pounds...just no lol. He would not have his hand in the dirt at all in today's era. He'd have to play linebacker. Edited December 29, 2019 by PapaShogun
