Half the time he traps the ball rather than hands catch. Sprinkle has stepped up when he became targeted frequently. Just look at the end of last year. I think they are a push. But either way neither is blowing the other out of the water. Sprinkle was our starting TE in 2019 for 13 games. He dropped a lot of passes. If Sprinkle had improved a lot as a receiver - kind of something you have or you don’t at his age - he’d be our starting TE. The jury isn’t out on Sprinkle as a possible good starting TE & a possible good receiving TE, the jury has decided. He’s not a starter, at best he’s a #2 TE but he more #3. Actually, you should take a look at stats right now because in all of 2019 Sprinkle had the exact same amount of targets as Thomas got this year. e16bball
Finally watched the Dallas game. Thomas is definitely an impressive athlete. I like the way he went and high pointed the ball along the side, and it was pretty impressive how he discarded Smith and kept moving on the TD, although Smith took a terrible angle to make that play. The other big catch he had, they just lost him — but he still had to make kind of a tough catch because of the way Allen just lollipopped the ball over to him. He even had a couple plays where he did some nice things blocking in the run game, although quite frankly those were easily balanced out by plays where he looked awful. He did also have the drop on the 2-point conversion, though again, Allen got him killed there. You’d like your TE to hang onto that one in the endzone though. Overall, a noticeably better performance from him. Was it because the Cowboy defense is terrible from stem to stern? Probably. But it will be interesting to see if his rapport with Allen continues to flourish when we next play an actual good team — which apparently is in about a month or more. Allen did lollipop that pass - as I remember he couldn't step up and didn't want to lose a big gain even though he couldn't fire the pass in there. He did what he HAD to do . He did fire that ball to Thomas for 2 points. - it was a laser right on target and Thomas should have held on even though he did get popped. Thomas ' TD catch and run was a beauty . Let's hope he's coming around .

Sprinkle is a good blocker but poor receiver. If we could combine the two - just like if we could’ve given Jordan Reed Sprinkle’s blocking ability and toughness - we’d have a good to great starting TE. Knowing this franchise's collective luck, they'd end up with Sprinkle's receiving ability and Thomas's blocking ability
