Yeah so if we cut him we are on the hook for $3.7m but if we trade him the acquiring team picks up the base salary.

So you think we should trade him to save $2M and hope a mid round rookie RB and Kenyan Drake coming off of a broken ankle can fill the void behind the same OL we had last year?

I am saying we might consider trading him to get a draft pick and some cap savings as we shouldn’t pick up his option given its $8m next year. We also have Adams, Carr and maybe Waller to pay. RB is a fading value position.

If a team offers a 2nd for Hunter Renfrow, would you take the bait? he's looking to get paid big in 2023. This is a loaded draft class, his stock will never be higher

No No never Worst case scenario he leaves next year and the Raiders get a 3rd round comp pick.

There are too many scenarios to make a trade this year.

The Raiders can franchise him and trade him next year. The Raiders come make a deep playoff run and he might be willing to take less to stay with the Raiders. The Raiders can go all greatest show on turf this year and he'll wanna stay.  Hell Renfrew could be making a ton of money with endorsements from the casinos and will want to stay.

The hate that Jacobs gets on here is strange to me. Dude literally put the team on his back against the Broncos and Chargers down the stretch.

Don’t be twisting the discussion , nobody’s hating on Jacobs, just considering whether a trade might be considered given his cost next year and that McDaniels seems to like the RB by committee approach.

I don't think that $8M is an overpay for Jacobs, he has been a 1,000+ yard player every year here despite our OL getting progressively worse. If you're going to trade him you need to have a contingency plan and we currently only have Drake who's coming off of a serious ankle injury. The team wants to try and win this year, you get significantly worse if you trade him.

The biggest gripe that anyone has with Jacobs is that they don't want to pick up his 5th year option and pay him $8M. Jacobs has had 1,100 yards from scrimmage every season and was way better as a pass catcher last season. I just don't see the value in moving Jacobs and creating another hole while hoping that a rookie RB and an injured Drake can fill in for him.

Well you either pay Jacobs some money in near future or you get something in return. That's the whole thing.

The patriots seem to look like they don't want to spend big money in RBs. I think Harris is still in bis Rookie contract (?) and last year they drafted Stevenson. And they also traded away Sony Michel before they had to pay him.

But regardless If we're trading Jacobs or not. I think we will draft a RB this year to start some kind of a rb-cycle, Like McDaniels already said regarding the QBs.

We don't have to pick up his 5th year option if we don't think he's worth $8M. We could always decline it, let him play the last year on his deal, and then offer him less with a longer deal or let him walk.

You don't trade one of your best players that you're not financially committed too past this season because of hypothetical deals or cap space a year from now. Why couldn't we pick up his 5th year option and then trade him after the season?

The Patriots also never traded multiple premium picks or gave WR's mega contracts, they just did it with Adams.

That’s fine, you want to spend $8m on a RB with all the money we are gonna have tied up with Carr, Adams, Waller etc.

The cap is going to sky rocket with the new TV deal and $8M would make Jacobs the 11th or 12th highest paid RB in the league, it's not like we're giving him some mega contract.
