Broncos Receive

QB Jared Goff (80)

Lions Receive

2025 Broncos 1st Round Pick

Goff has been top 10 in passing yards for 3 years in a row. The Broncos need a QB in the worst way.  He has 1 year left on his deal at $31 mil, I had to trade him now during free agency so someone would have enough cap to take on his contract.

2024 NFL DRAFT

nfl-draft-image.jpg

Time to set up another draft board. I targeted QBs heavily in scouting, and IMO this is a better class than last years. The top QB is legit, Mitch Hancock is only 6’1” but has Elite Throw power and ran a 4.67, which isn’t amazing but is enough to scramble if needed. Plus he’s 21 and has B throw deep, A throw mid, B throw short. He’s mocked to go #1 overall so if I want to target him I have to trade up. Al Kelly isn’t as good as Hancock, but he’s a solid option. He has Great Throw Power, 21 years old with A throw deep and B throw short. He’s not as fast with only a 4.73 40 time. Justin Denman has Solid Throw Power, so he’s not worth a first round pick. Those are the only draftable QBs. Hancock is a legitimate talent at QB and is probably who I need to target with my first pick. I’m not sure what it’ll take to get to #1 though.

I’d like to land a new starting RB. Byron Spencer is the top RB in the draft and is the fastest player of the position (perhaps the whole draft) running a 4.31, and was 1st in 3 cone and 2nd in shuttle.  He’s a serious homerun threat but I generally prefer power backs. BTW there are no RBs projected to go in the first round so any of these guys will be available at 23 if not the top of the 2nd round. Joe Young is another speed back that’s good but slightly inferior to Spencer. Jay Parrish is 221 lbs with 26 reps and A trucking, but he only ran a 4.51. He’s a round 2-3 prospect, seems more like a backup than a starting option. Kyrie Lawrence is another Round 2-3 guy, he’s also 221 lbs, 29 reps and ran a 4.44. He’s an intriguing option. Johnny Bradham is a speed back, ran a 4.42 and would make a solid Day 3 pick. Its weird but most of the other RB prospects are 23 or 24 years old.

I could always use another WR even though its not a huge need. No one jumps out in the first round. Eddie Hannon is a Round 2-3 guy who ran a 4.40 with A deep route. He could develop into a legit #2 option or slot guy, and I’ve been lacking a solid slot WR. Glenn Barker is a Day 3 prospect with speed, at only 5’8” would be more of a slot guy. His release is terrible though. That’s it.  Probably the weakest WR class I’ve seen so far.

TE is definitely not a need but I never want to overlook any potential available talent. Jimmy Dansby is a projected Round 3-4 guy, and is pretty solid running a 4.64 with 25 reps. He’s a solid mid round target. He also has legit 6’5” 256 lbs size. He’s the only TE worth targeting in the draft.

There are 4 projected first round talents at LT, and they all suck. Caleb Cohen all the way down as a Day 3 prospect is the only draftable LT.

At LG, the top prospect Shawn White is only 21 but has an F injury rating, which is a red flag. Also, he’s only 6’3” and I already have both starting Guard spots locked down, so he’d have to play Center long term. Not sure he’s worth a 1st round pick. Gary Bruggeman is a solid Day 3 prospect.

In Round 1-2 OC Joe Edwards is pretty good but also has F injury rating. At 6’2” he’d have to stay at Center. He’s better than LG Shawn White. Edwards isn’t in the Round 1 mock so if he falls to 2 he’s an option to replace Ragnow eventually. Sean Valentine is a Day 3 prospect who’s not an elite athlete but has some solid run blocking skills.

RG Cody Brooks is pretty good but will get drafted too high for me to consider him. Mitch Williams is 6’4” 340 lbs and did an amazing 41 bench reps. He’s a Round 1-2 guy and could play RT.

RT Alan Sitton in Round 2-3 looks ok, solid athlete but I don’t know a ton about his skills. Mike Bush is smaller but is a better athlete than Sitton, he’s another Round 2-3 option. Chris Sheets in Round 3-4 also looks good, 34 reps with some good attributes. Wow Gary Smith is huge at 6’8” 334 lbs, 36 reps and has some good reps. Day 3 prospect but maybe I should consider him in Round 3, he looks really good.

I’ve spent a lot of draft picks on Dlineman already, so a first round pick on one doesn’t make a lot of sense. Maybe if there’s an amazing DT, but DE probably doesn’t make sense.

LE Keith Borum is amazing but is projected to go #3 overall.  I’d have to trade up for him, and not take a QB with my top pick for that to make sense. He ran a 4.53 and did 27 reps though. In Round 3-4, Rakkim Foster isn’t the fastest but did 30 reps and has good attributes. Marcus Sheldon is a Day 3 prospect, ran a 4.65 with 27 reps and good attributes. Another Day 3 guy, Mitchell Mohr, has great size at 6’5” 264, ran a 4.68, only 26 reps but great acceleration and B FM.

RE Rashad Melton is a top 5 talent but is 23 years old. Devin Althman is also a top 5 talent but only ran a 4.80 with 26 reps. Jason Lawton is 6’3” 304 lbs, he skipped the combine and is projected to go in the top 10.  He could make a good conversion to DT but I have too many needs to use a top 10 pick on a DT. Klay Peters is a much better athlete and would also play DT. He’s projected to go 20th, I think I’d have to consider him at 23 if he fell.

DT Josh Bassey is projected to fall to the 2nd and looks really good. 39 bench reps and a 4.77 40 time at 306 lbs.  He will be a top consideration at the top of the 2nd. Ross Thierry looks like another good 2nd round option, he’s a little weaker bench wise than Bassey but looks like a good speed rusher.

LOLB Bradley Cason looks like a DE/OLB pass rushing hybrid. He’d be solid value at 23 but would be kind of a luxury pick.

MLB Eric Loud looks really good, 4.53 speed with 28 reps, A hit power. He would have to play LOLB, which is a position that just doesn’t make much impact in sim. Most of the sim stats come from 2 linebacker sets, and Dunn and James are good coverage guys so they’re the ones going to be on the field. So although Loud looks great he’d be a huge luxury pick. I guess James could possibly move to SS. Cole Wood looks like a decent Day 3 prospect with 4.59 speed.

ROLB Dionte Carrol is listed as a top 5 prospect and is probably going to be an elite pass rusher right away. Eric Jennings is undersized but could make a decent depth pick in Round 2-3 as he had a great combine. Blaine Hagans is a really interesting Round 3-4 prospect as he has some interesting attributes like A catch rating, which is pretty weird for a linebacker. He only ran a 4.74 but he did 29 reps. I read online that you can possible convert defensive players to offense this year after the new scouting reports. At 247 lbs I wonder if Hagans could play RB.

CB Shonn Babineaux had a pretty good combine running a 4.46 at 6’2”, but I don’t know much about his attributes. He’s projected to go 19 overall, he’s definitely a consideration at 23 and might even be worth moving up for.  I really need more talent at CB. Kevin Springs is projected to go in the 1st, but he skipped both the combine and his pro day.  Too dangerous to target IMO. Marvin Baker could be a decent target in the 2nd. Luke Gray had a solid combine and is projected to go Late 1st, but again I know nothing about his attributes. Eli Arrington is 6’3”, average combine but that size makes up for that.  He’s a Round 3-4 prospect.

There are no Free Safeties worth drafting.

SS Deionte Gholston looks pretty solid, although I’d have to take him at 23.  SS is a need but I’m usually looking for a homerun in the 1st and not just solid. I know pretty much nothing about his attributes.

So here’s the board:

Time to start the draft.

So the options at the top of the draft are as follows:

Trade up to #1 overall for QB Hancock or stay at 6 and take pass rusher ROLB Dionte Carroll. That's pretty much it. I really like Carroll but I have no starting QB and have spent several picks on pass rushers in the past few drafts, plus there's no guarantee Carroll drops to 6. Guess I gotta make a trade.

*TRADE*

Bills Receive

#6 overall (1)

#79 overall (3)

#114 overall (4)

Lions Receive

#1 overall

Well that was easy.  Not the most realistic trade but I didn't get a lot in return when I traded down the past 2 years from #1 overall so I think it evens out.

With the 1st Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

QB Mitch Hancock, Georgia

Strong Arm (75), Scrambler (74), Improviser (73), Field General (71)

N69I5e5.jpg

- Hidden Dev! 94 throw power is great. 83 SPD, 87 ACC, 87 AG.

I'm on the clock again at 23.

Trading up twice in the first round in one draft isn't ideal, so I'm probably just going to wait till 23.

LE Borum goes #3 to the Texans. QB Al Kelly is the 4th pick to the Cardinals, so I would of had to trade up for a QB no matter what. The Bills take ROLB Carroll at 6, ends up being a great trade for them since they don't need a QB and I think Carroll is the 2nd best player in this class. Wow QB Denman is gone at 7, three QBs in the top 10. RG White is the 13th pick to the Vikings.

I've considered moving up to 19 for CB Shonn Babineaux, he has good size and CB is a need. However he had an average combine and I have no idea what his coverage skills are so its probably too much of a risk.

Annnnd Babineaux goes 19 to the Titans. RE Peters goes 20 to Falcons. LOLB Cason goes 21 to the WFT.  The draft has pretty much gone according to script so far.

Ok I'm on the clock at 23.

The top players available are the stupid fast HB Spencer, the extremely athletic MLB Eric Loud, and SS Gholston who fills a big need in the secondary. Spencer isn't projected to go in the 1st round but sometimes guys go in the late 1st that weren't projected. Eric Loud isn't really a need, Gholston fills a big need. However, ROLB Ben James could move back to safety. Also, all 3 aren't projected to go for awhile so a trade down is possible.

*TRADE*

Seahawks Receive

#23 overall

Lions Receive

#28 overall (1)

2025 3rd Round Pick

2025 7th Round Pick

Hopefully someone just drafts Loud for me so I don't have to take him.

CB Marvin Baker goes 26th to the Ravens. Ah crap HB Spencer goes 27th to the Panthers.

I really think Eric Loud is the 3rd best player in this draft class but I don't really want to move Ben James to Safety and I know 3rd linebackers just don't play in simmed games.

With the 28th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

SS Deionte Gholston, Clemson

Hybrid (77), Zone (75), Run Support (73)

sPcR2ve.jpg

- UGH.  Normal dev. 90 SPD, 90 ACC, 90 AG, but what a mediocre pick. Crap.

You know what, screw this I'm trading up for Loud.

*TRADE*

Packers Receive

#38 overall (38)

SS Julian Love (80)

Lions Receive

#29 overall

I move up about 10 spots and SS was listed as the Packers #1 need. Unfortunately I will have to play against him twice a year.  Better than playing against Loud twice a year though.

With the 29th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

MLB Eric Loud, Miami

Run Stopper (76), Field General (76), Pass Coverage (72)

kQFTT0L.jpg

- OMG normal dev.  I give up.

HB Young goes off the board, that basically screws me out of landing a new starting RB in this draft. CB Luke Gray is also gone. So is DT Josh Bassey, who will probably be better than both of the guys I took.

Top players available are RG Mitch Williams, who would move to RT, DT Theirry who isn't really a need, ROLB Jennings who's undersized, and I really really don't need another linebacker now, and WR Hannon who actually fills a need.

I think the pick is down to Williams vs. Hannon. Williams had a ridiculous 41 reps, but his attributes are average. Hannon ran a 4.40 with A Deep Route and A kick return, he's got some serious speed. He ran a 4.36 at his pro day too.

With the 37th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

RG Mitch Williams, Florida

Power (72), Agile (69), Pass Protector (64)

rH7VQUJ.jpg

- Normal dev. This is not going well. Only 93 strength for 41 bench reps?  Oh come on.

I may consider moving up again if Hannon drops a bit. I have a bunch of mid round picks.

*TRADE*
Eagles Receive

LT Taylor Decker (80)

#156 overall (5)

Lions Receive

#49 overall (2)

The Eagles have no starting LT on the roster. I'm going to move Sewell to LT so Williams can start at RT.

With the 49th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

WR Eddie Hannon, Michigan

Deep Threat (74), Slot (70), Route Runner (67), Physical (67)

qr33lWM.jpg

- The Normal Dev train continues. 91 SPD, 93 ACC, 90 AG.

I've got picks at 70 & 74.  Let's see if I can continue this train wreck.

With the 70th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

TE Jimmy Dansby, Florida

Possession (74), Vertical Threat (72), Blocking (62)

KInjoN1.jpg

- Normal dev. Not a need but thought he was BPA here. 85 SPD, 88 ACC, 83 AG, 77 STR.

With the 74th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

ROLB Blaine Hagans, Iowa

Run Stopper (73), Speed Rusher (71), Power Rusher (69), Pass Coverage (64)

c8J9naX.jpg

- Normal dev. Not sure where he's going to play.

In the 4th I have picks 102 & 106.

With the 102nd Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

RT Gary Smith, LSU

Power (71), Agile (66), Pass Protector (64)

wh6hFU7.jpg

- THERE WE GO. HIDDEN DEV. Not an elite athlete but he's huge, 6'8" 334 lbs.  Not sure where he will play but welcome aboard.

With the 106th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

HB Johnny Bradham, Arizona State

Elusive Back (69), Power Back (58), Receiving Back (55)

195Kjcf.jpg

- Normal dev, needed RB depth. 90 SPD, 93 ACC, 90 AG.

I don't pick again until 134 in the 5th.

With the 134th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

LE Rakkim Foster, Washington State

Speed Rusher (66), Run Stopper (62), Power Rusher (62)

NQVZb0Y.jpg

- Normal dev, solid athlete.

Two 6ths coming up, picks 166 & 175 but not a lot left on my board.

With the 166th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select:

LT Caleb Cohen, North Carolina

Agile (64), Power (61), Pass Protector (58)

WMd4Bpy.jpg

- Normal dev, more oline depth.

There's no one else left on my board.

Traded current 6th to the Browns for a future 5th.

Traded current 7th to Colts for a future 6th.

That ends the draft.  Definitely not a lot of star players but a lot of needed depth.  If Hancock turns out to be a stud he'll save this draft.
