Isnt Lance both hurt and playing awful when put in?

I hadn't heard the former, I know he had had some bad spots but he's a rookie QB, that's to be expected. I think it's highly unlikely the 49ers end up as a playoff team this year so at this point I'd say why not put in the young guy and let him take his bumps?

I am still of the belief that putting in young QBs to take their lumps is why so many good young QB prospects get totally ruined. For every "Dak" there are 15 "Darnolds" who develop sheety habits on bad teams.

The young QBs who thrive in these scenarios tend to be on good teams to begin with. Almost all of them that start off on bad teams flop hard.

That's fair.

Agree with this. Trial by fire isn’t necessarily doing your young QB any favors. See Chicago. Bad OL and Nagy and Co. haven’t been playing to Fields current strengths.

fwiw, Lance is out with a knee injury.

As you all know, I was never as high on Byron Jones as the rest of the Cowboys fanbase. Something which I think irked a bunch of you. Chido and Byron both left us, Byron is graded average and Chido is ranked #2 in the NFL.

Just a reminder that Byron is the highest paid DB in the entire NFL.

PS: He also got match-played ("outplayed" seems like hyperbole, so I am making up a word) by a rookie Diggs last year.

PPS: Sorry Byron truthers, that dude is a #2 cb and always will be.
