onejayhawk
Back in August, this game did not look like much. The AFC North supposedly had two serious Super Bowl contenders and a fading dynasty. None of those teams was the Bengals. Still, with two games remaining, this game is the most interesting in the whole league this week. We hold the #1 seed and the associated bye. Tennesse beat us head to head, so we lose that tie breaker and they have a winnable game, at home against Miami. So, there is pressure on us even though we have clinched a playoff spot, the division, and first game home field. For Cincinnati, the implications are even bigger. Baltimore beat New England to make their statement and they are only a game back. J
onejayhawk
Some good news about Clyde Edwards-Helaire's injury. It was bad enough that he came out of the game immediately and was sent for X-rays. A more thorough examiniation shows swelling but no structural damage. The injury is not expected to be season ending.https://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/injury_update_latest_on_clyde_edwards_helaires_shouldercollarbone/s1_16631_36827429 That said, I would be surprised if CEH played much during the last two games. For UDFA, Derren Williams and Derrick Gore have played very well. Gore's 50 yard catch and run was the longest play of the Steelers' game. onejayhawk
The good news is that Kelce will be back in time to practice a bit. Fenton, Butker and Townsend are not returned, but Elliot Fry and johnny Townsend were released. The new rules seem to make it clear that all three will be able to play.https://chiefswire.usatoday.com/2021/12/28/kansas-city-chiefs-travis-kelce-returning-from-covid-19-protocols-wednesday/https://chiefswire.usatoday.com/2021/12/28/kansas-city-chiefs-roster-moves-elliott-fry-johnny-townsend-waived/ FBO grades Cincinnati 11 slots below us--6 vs 17--but also gives them a much better grade when recent games are weighted more heavily. Not surprisingly, almost all that improvement is in the offense. The defense ranks #14 but the ST are good at #7. onejayhawk
You will have noticed that Tyreek Hill did not have a big game aagainst Pittsburgh. That was all good because Mahomes used the opportunity to go in a different direction. The reason Hill had a slow game is taht he had not fully recovered his stamina. It's going to be a leaguewide theme.https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2021/12/30/22860432/some-kansas-city-chiefs-might-not-be-100-percent-for-cincinnati-bengals-game-nfl-week-
kingseanjohn
Here’s a quote from Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett: Quote “My throat was hurting. I had chills. My chest was hurting,” Lockett said. “I was very, very anxious. Like, my mind was just wandering ‘cause I was probably thinking too much. I was throwing up … and I just had no energy. I was barely eating. I think I lost like eight pounds. “So it was a pretty big accomplishment just to get back onto the field last week. I don’t want to say I had breathing problems but, like, I couldn’t fully breathe out of my chest like I wanted to.” I think it’s important to remember that just because everyone is back, we may not see them play a whole lot or at their usual level. We caught a glimpse of that last week with Hill.
onejayhawk
Over 1/4 of aall players and staff have been effected, most with both shots and many with the boster. Here is the QB confrontation of the year, via Madden. Tip of the hat to the namesake play.https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2021/12/31/22861052/madden-simulation-burrow-and-mahomes-go-toe-to-toe-in-the-jungle
Chiefer
Very interested to see how our physical DB group does against the leagues best WR corp. Helps that Cincis OL group is just okay, Chiefs should do well up front. Cant forget Joe Mixon, but the front 7 should be able to limit him. onejayhawk
The staff picks are solidly behind the Chiefs, but they also believe that Burrow and company can score on the Chiefs.https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2021/12/31/22858558/kansas-city-chiefs-vs-cincinnati-bengals-game-and-score-predictions-nfl-week-17 The injury report is good for both teams. Clyde Edwards-Helaire is listed as questionable and likely will not play much if he plays at all, but everyone else is full participant. The Bengals have two players out but no one critical.https://chiefswire.usatoday.com/lists/kansas-city-chiefs-cincinnati-bengals-week-17-friday-injury-report/ The game is being hyped as a QB confrontation. This is just one such article.https://www.yardbarker.com/general_sports/articles/patrick_mahomes_can_put_yet_another_qb_comparison_to_rest_on_sunday/s1_16631_36860951
Habbsawce
Do we know why all these "experts" are so heavy on Cinci in this game? I'm confused. Does it have something to do with betting maybe?

I like what they're doing in Cinci though and they have some serious playmakers. Today will be a good test for both teams

Does it have something to do with betting maybe? It's the more interesting angle from an entertainment perspective. Narrative is slowly shifting back to us being the powerhouse. Hyping up the competition becomes the best way to drive hype for the contest given that. There's no need to hype up Mahomes or us at this point. So every week you can, hype up the competition as a proper rival, drive maximum interest in the game. And no one ever really has to answer in any meaningful way if their takes don't work out anyway.
