I originally posted it and had Landon Sims in that spot but forgot he had TJS so I did a quick edit and just bumped Young up from the Yankees pick. I think the other guy I considered was the LHP from East Carolina who's name I'm blanking on.

Carson Whisenhunt.  He had a long time away from baseball due to the suspension, but the reports were middling about his first start in the Cape.  He's gonna have to turn it around to get himself squarely in the 1st round discussion again.

Man, how high is Cade Horton going to end up going? I'd consider him at #22 to the Cardinals. Would probably like that pick more than I would Jett Williams.

Is he draft eligible?

So by not providing the imagining, Rocker's camp is essentially admitting that there's some iffy stuff in there.  Either that, or they are only providing it to certain teams that Rocker would like to go to.  Not sure that's permitted though.

Why is Walter Ford so low in most of the rankings out there? I'd be perfectly happy if the Cardinals decided to take him at #22.

Because right now he's just your typical projectible prep righty.  Low 90's fastball that can reach the mid 90's.  A decent, but not elite slider.  Below average changeup.  Both command and control come and go.  The upside is that he's athletic and really young. You hope professional coaching and nutrition can develop him, but this profile is found every draft in the supplemental and 2nd round.

Been meaning to get back on here, but things happen. I started this mock on Sunday and finished last night because I had to go back after the Braves trade for #35. Will try to get one more done this weekend, and Ill have my final rankings out tomorrow.

(-R)...Possible Reliever

*...Injured

FIRST ROUND

1.Baltimore-Druw Jones||CF||Weslyan, GA
-The Orioles have close to 17 million dollars this draft and they have five picks in the first 81. Its not going to take the full 8.8 million slot to get the deal done. Baltimore should save close to half a million with Jones and still have over 8 million for the rest of their class and thats before the 5% overage they can use. If they really think Jones is the best player, the money wont matter. They will have the ability to get anyone on their board in later rounds. This would be the third straight first round outfielder for the club.

2.Arizona-Termarr Johnson||2B||Mays, GA
-This will almost assuredly be a middle of the diamond player with Arizona's draft tendencies and the top prospects available. Johnson seemed to drop down boards this spring for no reason other than Johnson played against crap competition and was pitched around while scouts were present. That sounds like a lot of BS to me. Termarr decided to play in a MLB sponsored college wooded bat league in the Atlanta area this summer, and showed exactly why he was highly sought after in the preseason. Im not on the Holliday train, Termarr should pair nicely with Jordan Lawler on the infield, and the Diamondbacks should be able to save just a little money with the pick.

3.Texas-Kevin Parada||C||Georgia Tech
-Jackson Holliday seems to be the consensus option here if he is available, but Im not convinced. Texas has altered their draft strategy the past couple of years and have gone for the proven college commodity in the first round. Also, with the team spending tons of money to make the team better now, a college hitter would fit their timeline better. I went with Parada here over Brooks Lee because Parada's name has been mentioned with Texas more often.

4.Pittsburgh-Cam Collier||3B||Chipola JC
-The Pirates had a great draft in 2021 snatching up five top 100 players after going underslot with their first pick, and that could be the strategy again with three picks in the first 44 this year. Collier will likely take less money here than Brooks Lee, so he gets the edge with the pick.

5.Washington-Elijah Green||CF||IMG Academy, FL
-I dont think Washington expects either Green or Holliday to be available at this selection, and yet both are available. The Nationals went with the ultra toolsy, high upside Brady House in 2021, and I would expect that again here with Green, the best player in the draft with three potential 70 grade tools.

6.Miami-Brooks Lee||SS||Cal Poly
-Derek Jeter stepped down as the CEO of the Marlins before the season and his hand picked VP of Player Development, Gary Denbo, left the organization a little over a week ago. The Marlins draft strategy seems to have shifted its focus to college hitters this draft, and they have Brooks Lee staring them in the face. Jackson Holliday is still available, but I just dont see the fit with this new regime.

7.Chicago Cubs-Jackson Holliday||SS||Stillwater, OK
-In this situation, the Cubs would be flying to the podium to get in the Holliday selection. The Cubs have become a more data leaning team, so the selection makes perfect sense. Zach Neto would be my backup plan here if the team wanted to try to save some money for later picks.

8.Minnesota-Jacob Berry||1B||LSU
-The Twins have a type. A hit first, plus power, college player that they will figure out a position for later, and that sums up Jacob Berry to a T. Berry is linked with a couple of teams in the top five that love his bat, so Minnesota should be pleased with his availability here.

9.Kansas City-Cade Horton||RHP||Oklahoma
-The Royals have a 5.2 million slot for the 9th pick, and it is probably going to cost all of it to sign Horton. Cade was a top two way prospect out of high school that decided to head to Norman because he is eligible after his second year in 2022. Horton missed all of 2021 with Tommy John and did not get on the mound until March 29 of this year. He was awful with rust for the first two months but once the post season started, Horton showed he was the best pitcher in college with 49 Ks, 6 BB, and 9 ER in 31 innings. He has a huge price tag since he can go back to school and possibly be the top college pitcher as a junior in 2023. A team outside of the top 12-15 picks probably wont have a chance to sign him with their pool allotment.

10.Colorado-Gavin Cross||COF||Virginia Tech
-Scuttlebutt seems to have the Rockies going college hitter here, and the selection of Cross could give the Rockies a potential outfield of him, Zac Veen, and Benny Montgomery. Those offensive bats are definitely something you want to build around in the Denver air.

11.New York Mets-Connor Prielipp||LHP||Alabama*
-With two selections within the next four picks, and the potential for them to throw gobs of money around, the Mets could go many different ways. This pick is from not signing Kumar Rocker next year, so they cannot play around with this selection. It has to be someone they can sign. Both Dylan Lesko and Brock Porter, the top two high school arms, are available here, and a Lesko selection would definitely be the splash everyone is expecting from the Mets. I dont think the Tigers or Angels are going to take a high school arm with their selections, so they dont have to take either here. Connor Prielipp probably wont be available with their next pick, and with 1-1 ability, he is the guy I see the Mets selecting as long as they are ok with the medicals, and you probably even save a little money here as well.

12.Detroit-Jace Jung||2B||Texas Tech
-This is probably the worst scenario for the Tigers with Horton, Prelipp, and Berry already selected. Detroit loves players from big time college programs, so Im not on Zach Neto here. With Detroit calling up its first wave of prospects in the past year, Jace Jung fits their timeline better, and could be a fast climber in the minors.

13.Los Angeles Angels-Kumar Rocker||RHP||Independent
-Everyone knows the Angels are desperate to find pitching. They used every selection in the 21 draft on pitchers, and is in the process of ruining all of them by pushing them before they are ready. Kumar Rocker makes too much sense. His people released his medicals recently, and it sounds like many teams are back in. It helped that Rocker threw 30 innings in Independent ball in June and looked like the 2019/2020 Kumar. He could be in the pen by September and in the rotation next April.

14.New York Mets-Dylan Lesko||RHP||Buford, GA*
-The two best pitching prospects in the draft are Connor Prielipp and Dylan Lesko, if you dont take injuries into consideration. The Mets are poised to select both and put a huge boost into a system whose best pitching prospect hasnt pitched since 2019.

15.San Diego-Justin Crawford||CF||Bishop Gorman, NV
-The Padres are going to go high school here and will go for upside. Thats AJ Preller's MO. There was a run of six college players selected before the Mets took Dylan Lesko at pick 14, so the Padres have to choose from a list of almost all the guys they have been scouting heavy. Im leaning more towards Preller taking a hitter, and Justin Crawford seems to be the guy that has slipped a couple of picks, and he could be a CJ Abrams type of athlete.

16.Cleveland-Zach Neto||SS||Campbell
-Middle infielders and pitching. Cleveland's draft philosophy has been in place for years now. Both Jett Williams and Cole Young are both available here, and I would select Williams(Young is old for Cleveland's model) but Zach Neto fits their model perfectly and should move through the system quicker.

17.Philadelphia-Brock Porter||RHP||Orchard Lake St Marys, MI
-After having success selecting right handed high school pitchers in the past couple seasons, the Phillies are poised to have the second best high school arm drop to them at number 17 in Brock Porter. Talented kids drop every year and the Phillies are in position to take advantage once again in 2022.

18.Cincinnati-Drew Gilbert||CF||Tennessee
-The Reds have over 10 million in pool money this year, and they have a tendency to stay around slot with their first pick and then try to splurge on a talented high schooler somewhere in their next couple of picks. The organization has decided that it was time to tear everything down and start over, and Drew Gilbert is a culture changer. He could come in and be the sparkplug for the whole organization.

19.Oakland-Jett Williams||SS||Rockwall-Heath, TX
-The A's have had success the past couple of years with their selection of high schoolers Tyler Soderstrom and Max Muncy in the first round and they probably did not expect Jett Williams to land here with his helium but here we are. Him and Muncy could be the future middle infield pairing for Oakland.

20.Atlanta-Cooper Hjerpe||LHP||Oregon State
-The Braves have gone underslot/slot with their first pick each year since selecting Shea Langeliers in 2019, and 2022 will probably be no different. The organization is tied to college pitchers for the third year in a row, but they probably did not expect Daniel Susac to be available with this pick, but his selection would probably take full slot. The Braves are already seeing their draft strategy blossom at the major league level with Michael Harris II(19, 3rd) and Spencer Strider(20, 4th) both being huge contributors for the Braves. Lefty Cooper Hjerpe is the selection.

21.Seattle-Cole Young||SS||North Allegheny, PA
-It seems like Seattle's board has been destroyed in the past five picks, and they could reach here for a security blanket in a college pitcher, or they could take a high school bat for the second year in a row in Young.

22.St Louis-Daniel Susac||C||Arizona
-The Cardinals have been one of the best organizations in taking players that have slid down draft boards and developing them in their system, and Daniel Susac makes tons of sense here. The Cardinals might just stumble into Yadier Molina's successor.

23.Toronto-Peyton Graham||SS||Oklahoma
-After going pitchers with nine of their first ten picks last year, it sounds like Toronto is zeroing in on hitters in 2022, but the top three high school lefty pitchers are still available here, so that could cause them to change direction. Graham came on this year and was able to show that he could handle short at the next level, which helped move him my draft board.

24.Boston-Sterlin Thompson||COF||Florida
-Boston took two University of Florida hitters in the first five rounds last year, and they are poised to take another in 2022 with the selection of Sterlin Thompson. The Red Sox have drafted hit tool early in the past couple of rounds, so it would make sense to take the Gator. Thompson should get the chance to try third, but wherever he ends up defensively, he is going to need to find more power in his body.

25.New York Yankees-Brock Jones||CF||Stanford
-The Yankees have taken college hitter performers the past couple years and are in line once again to take another at spot 25. The narrative is already being put in place for Spencer Jones of Vanderbilt to be the selection because of the similarities to Aaron Judge with his size and power potential, but if things seem to perfect, then they probably are. Brock Jones came to Stanford as a two sport star and has only been concentrating on baseball since 2020. His slow start and strike outs have pushed him down boards, but he ended the season very strong with better numbers than his All American 2021 season.

26.Chicago White Sox-Landon Sims||RHP||Mississippi State*
-I dont think anyone knows just where the White Sox are looking this year. They've gone high school hitter, college pitcher, and college hitter the past three years. Landon Sims was on his way to becoming the first pitcher taken in the draft until the Tommy John bug hit. Sims has a year of dominant reliever work under his belt in 2021, and scouts saw flashes of a third pitch in his shortened 2022. This pick mirrors their pick of Garrett Crochet in 2020.

27.Milwaukee-Spencer Jones||COF||Vanderbilt
-Milwaukee has taken two straight college performers in the first round so a third at 27 is very possible with names like Jones, DeLauter, and Beavers still on the board. Jones only has one year of production at Vanderbilt because of injury, but he has a potential above average bat, plus power, and a plus arm from right. Its a lower floor than others, but its also potentially a higher ceiling.

28.Houston-Chase DeLauter||COF||James Madison
-The run on college players continues. I would love to give the Astros one of the three high school lefty's but the Astros have drafted one left handed pitcher in the last three drafts. DeLauter was once considered for the top 5 but injuries this spring hurt his stock. He has wood bat success and I think the combination of a high ceiling and higher floor gives him the edge over a high school pitcher.

29.Tampa Bay-Noah Schultz||LHP||Oswego East, IL
-The college run finally ends here with Tampa taking the 6'9 lefty with a deceptive 3/4 delivery. Schultz has maybe the absolute highest ceiling of any pitcher in the draft with his size and delivery reminiscent of Randy Johnson.

30.San Francisco-Cayden Wallace||COF||Arkansas
-After going pitcher with their first nine picks last year, it looks like the Giants are poised to take a college bat in 2022. Wallace is sophomore eligible. Athletic for his size, his home is likely right field but he has played both third and center at Arkansas, so he might get an opportunity elsewhere before sliding into right.

Good work on the 3 rounder, Devils.  Impressive.

I just can't trust Baltimore to take Jones, given their history.  Should be a fun 1st round.

For the Cubs in your mock, it's pretty much spot on.  They will have a chance to take at least 1 of the top group of 7.  Holliday supposedly has a big price tag to forego playing for his uncle and dad at OKST, so taking Crawford in the 2nd at a likely underslot works out financially for those 2 rounds.  I actually hadn't read much on Clifford yet, so that was interesting.  His experience with Team USA is something the Cubs like, so he makes sense.

TOP 106 PROSPECTS

I have viewed over 200 prospects in this class. The amount of time put into each one has varied and there are guys that Ive seen a couple videos of that I dont think I have enough info on to properly rank. This is especially true of right handed pitchers, who run together after a while. I do feel the 106 guys I have ranked are a tier over the ones that did not make the list. Ive also included 20 names that intrigue me for varying reasons.

I think its 50/50 between Jones and Johnson. Termarr wants to be #1. Everyone knows this and he will probably take 2 million dollars less than Druw, but Baltimore has so much money in their pool this year that unless Cade Horton just drops to their second pick, I dont see how they can spend all the money. At some point there wont be any players left worth the money. They could try to take the difficult signs like Malcolm Moore, Tristan Smith, and others and try to spend all their money there, but that just seems like throwing away money since they still wont sign everyone and they will lose the pool money with guys they dont sign.

Just a lot of words to say, Baltimore will be dumb to go under slot this year if they think Druw Jones is a tier above Johnson or maybe even Brooks Lee.

I really like Clifford's hit tool and raw power but a lack of position is never good for a high schooler. If you think there is a chance he can stick in left, and arent scared away by his age and commitment to Vandy, then he's a top 50 pick.

I have seen the same things in regards to Johnson at #1.  My gut tells me the O's go with Lee at #1.  They have taken OF with that past 2 first rounders; they have tried to spread their money out the past few drafts and Lee is asking for less than Jones; they have had no qualms recently about giving larger overslot bonuses to guys the industry wasn't as high on; and Lee should reach the majors more quickly to join the group they are putting together right now.  I absolutely think they should take Jones, but I don't think they do.  I'll put my annual 5% right mock up this afternoon if I have time.
