SkippyX
I was trying to think of a better defensive mind than Belichick and I just realized today that Bud Carson was the DC for 4 of the 10 best DVOA defenses of all-time. He was the DC for the 1991 Eagles (#1 on that list) The #2 all-time DVOA D is closer to the 35th team than they are to Philly '91 (-42.4 for Philly vs -32.9 for Minnesota '69) He was the DC for the 1974 Steelers (#6 on that list) He was the DC for the 1976 Steelers who gave up 28 points in their last 9 regular season games. (4th on that list) The 1973 Steelers were 9th on the list. Landry was a dominant DC in NY before taking Doomsday to Dallas. (Lombardi was the OC in NY, not a bad staff) Wade Phillips peaked with a very good D in almost every stop in his long and distinguished career as DC. Buddy Ryan was the defensive head coach of the 1985 Bears (Ditka was not allowed in the room) He was the HC for those 1986-1990 Eagles and he peaked with a top 5 D in Arizona as well. He was the D-line coach for the '68 Jets as well in that thrashing of an 18 point favorite Colts team. Monte Kiffin had 12 years of top 10 D in Tampa including that 2002 SB team (#3 on that all-time DVOA list) I don't think I need to sell Belichick to anyone. He had a 3 year run with a very dominant D in Baltimore (2000 was great). He also had about 5 years in Cincy with a top 10 level D. (top 5 x2) He belongs in the conversation at least.

BayRaider
Joe Montana hated playing the Giants kore than any other team if you watch his new documentary. Even more than the Bears Defense.

First and foremost Lawrence Taylor wasn't drafted #2 overall back in 1981 because of "Bill Belichick". It was actually Giants GM George Young who predicted (before the draft) that LT would be better than an NFL legend such as **** Butkus and stated word for word "Taylor is the best college linebacker I've ever seen". LT is self made man. • Bill Belichick didn't become Giants Defensive Coordinator until 1985 and before 1985? Lawrence Taylor had already won 2x Defensive Player of the Year awards 1981 and 1982 (ala his 1st two seasons in the league). • And before Bill Belichick became Giants Defensive Coordinator in 1985? Lawrence Taylor was already a Rookie of the year (1981), 4x First-team All-Pro (81, 82, 83 and 84), 4x Pro Bowler (81, 82, 83 and 84) and a 2x Defensive Player of the year (1981 and 1982). And if we're going to start crediting an "LB COACH" for the success of Lawrence Taylor (before Bill Belichick became his DC) well then I've got 22 questions for you. 1.) Who was the QB coach for Joe Montana? 2.) Who was the QB coach for Tom Brady? 3.) Who was the RB coach for Barry Sanders? 4.) Who was the RB coach for Adrian Peterson? 5.) Who was the WR coach for Jerry Rice? 6.) Who was the WR coach for Randy Moss? 7.) Who was the TE coach for Tony Gonzalez? 8.) Who was the TE coach for Rob Gronkowski? 9.) Who was the O-Line coach for Anthony Munoz? 10.) Who was the O-Line coach for Bruce Matthews? 11.) Who was the D-Line coach for Reggie White? 12.) Who was the D-Line coach for Aaron Donald? 13.) Who was the LB coach for Ray Lewis? 14.) Who was the LB coach for Derrick Thomas? 15.) Who was the CB coach for #24 Darrelle Revis? 16.) Who was the CB coach for Deion Sandes? 17.) Who was the Safety coach for Ronnie Lott? 18.) Who was the Safety coach for Ed Reed? 19.) Who was the ST coach for Punter Shane Lechler? 20.) Who was the ST coach for FG kicker Adam Vinatieri? 21.) Who was the ST coach for KR/PR Devin Hester? 22.) How long did it take you to Wiki all 21 of those positional coaches? And suddenly we both understand that either one of me or you could've been an LB coach under all 3 of Ray Perkins (Head Coach of 1981 and 1982) and Bill Parcells (Defensive Coordinator of 1981 and 1982) and Bill Parcells (Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator of both 1983 and 1984) etc and Lawrence LT Taylor would've still been the same beast player (with or without "Bill Belichick"). Serious question for you. How many other Linebackers became LT under Bill Belichick other than Lawrence self made Taylor himself? (There's nothing in 🏈 topic of conversation that bothers me more than Bill Belichick stealing fame and credit for Lawrence Taylor).
