We’ll see how they all turn out, but drafting for need usually turns out poorly.

Drafting for a need that you unnecessarily created with bad roster management is…even worse.

I mean, yes it was a need but they also were the best players on the board when we picked Mathis.

I was agreeing with you — referring to Mathis as the “need” pick. One they created by letting Settle and Greek go when they also have no intention of keeping Payne.

There’s no maybe. Dean and Brisker had no business being available when we picked and took a back up DT. I don’t hate Mathis and I hope he works out but if they pay Payne the pick looks even worse.

Brisker would’ve been a back up here. Curl & McCain are our starting safeties unless they would’ve moved Curl to Buffalo nickel & Brisker had started at SS or vice versa.

Maybe Dean starts over Holcomb or Jamin? But our D is starting 5 DBs, not 3 true LBs. I’ve been talking about that all off-season.

There’s no definite guarantee that if we had drafted either of them they would be starting.

I would’ve liked either of their selections but I’m entirely fine with them taking Mathis too. Overreacting to how Brisker & Dean performed in 1 preseason game is a bit of a overreaction.
