2017 to present Tight Ends (after the whole "move" TE craze started)

OJ Howard 19th (2017 draft)
1,847

Evan Engram 23rd (2017 draft)
3,180

David Njoku 29th (2017 draft)
2,189

Robert Tonyan (2017 undrafted)
1,309
16

Hayden Hurst 25th
1,607
14

T.J. Hockensen 8th
2138
15

Noah Fant 20th
2,177
11

Kyle Pitts
1,382

Where is this can't miss prospect? Where is this move TE?

Kyle Pitts has three career touchdowns in 27 games.

Kyle Pitts has a 56.8% catch rate. He was targeted 110 times to get 68 catches in his first year.

That's 61.8% catch rate on his rookie year as this big super duper badass TE.

Robert Tonyan has never had a catch rate under 62.1% at any point in his career and he cost zero draft capital.

And this is Robert Tonyan I'm using to compare against these recent first round draft picks.

Robert Tonyan. An undrafted TE.

Mark Andrews (86th overall)
4017
34 touchdowns

Mark Andrews as a 3rd round pick has more receiving yards and more touchdowns on one less year than any two first round tight ends from the previous year.

Goedert, Ertz, Dissly, Freirmuth, Higbee, Conklin...

So are we going to have to trade up to get Mayer?

It’s all there. It’s not subjective, it’s not opinion, it’s not some musings of someone who hates the TE position. TE is probably my favorite position to watch on the offense. A great one is a thing of beauty. The best have to have that grit in them as well as the agility.

Kelce and Gronkowski would both probably be my favorite Packers of all time if they’d been Packers.

I’d rather have a great TE than a great receiver.

But I’m not an idiot and I know that their value is not as great and conducive towards Super Bowl wins as OT, QB, RB, EDGE, DB, DL or probably not even as valuable as ILB, IOL.

They rank close to dead last. Kicker, punter and MAYBE receiver are below them.

If I could pick an elite player - I was guaranteed to have an elite player with my pick - I go every single position except for kicker or punter before I go TE.
