Singapore Sentinels

Motivation: Another crucial division game against the champs. We expect a tough matchup this week against a team coming off another tie. We are a surprise to some in the league after a third of the season is over but after last year we built this squad with redundancy across the board and have had some luck on the injury front with players just missing a game here and there.

Defensive Strategy

Formation:  4-3 “Under” / 2-4-5 Big Nickel

DL - Keanu Benton is going to line up over the Center and attack the A Gap between their C-RG, forcing a double team while applying pressure on Burrow. Grady Jarrett is our 3-tech inside and will look to collapse the pocket and force errant throws.  Arik Armstead will compound the overload of the Left side against Ekwonu forcing him to pick his poison. Uchenna Nwosu will take on Steele this week. Arden Key and Azeez Ojulari will play key roles in keeping the pressure high.  Being able to substitute players and see minimal difference in the unit itself is something other teams wish they had. Zach Allen and D.J. Jones provides solid options to keep the big guys up front fresh as well to help in the minimal run defense needed this week against Hall.

LB - Greenlaw has the speed and agility to make things more difficult for Anchorage’s passing game while also being able to chase down Hall in the flat.. Ellis will be the man in the middle directing traffic and clogging up lanes. Leonard Floyd will be on the LOS and provide an extra rusher to flush Burrow from the pocket. He’s been able to get to the QB this season and will look to take advantage of a hobbled Burrow. Bentley is our do it all backup that can fill any of the starting roles

Secondary - Cover 1 Man Hybrid

Charvarius Ward is our top coverage guy and he will look to take out Chase this week..Levi Wallace will get the start and draws Hollywood in the intermediate to long routes. Isaiah Oliver is now slotted into his natural position at nickelback and will get to test himself this week against Josh Downs. We think he is up to the task. Our Dime Backer this week is Ambry Thomas to cover JSN, Jamo or Bell.

Jabrill Peppers continues this week as the single High Safety. Underneath, Ryan Neal will be taking on the task of covering Njoku.  He can be disruptive near the line of scrimmage, using his aggressive mindset to make plays. Edmunds provides depth if the guys need it.

Coverage Assignments:

  • ·        Ja’Marr Chase. / “Mooney” Ward - CB

  • ·        Hollywood Brown / Levi Wallace - CB

  •          Josh Downs  / Isaiah Oliver - CB

  • ·        David Njoku / Ryan Neal - S

  •          Breede Hall / Dre Greenlaw - LB

  •          JSN/Jamo/ Bell  / Ambry Thomas - CB

Offensive Strategy

Scheme:  Pass (60%) vs Run (40%)

Formations:   3 WR (40%)/ 4 WR Spread (35%)/ 2 TE (25%)

Our primary formation will be 11 personnel this week. Anchorage is missing a lot of their CBs so we will look to exploit that this week by spreading things out and using a specquick passing offense to get the ball out of Cousins hands. We are just wanting to let Cousins control the clock and move the chains with what their defense gives him.

OL - It doesn’t get easier this week after Clark/Watt last week. Our OL has only given up 4 sacks on the year and will keep Cousins upright to give him time in the pocket. We will use a lot of zone blocking this week to keep the big guys up front occupied.

Passing - Arguably one of the best WR corps in the league again gets a depleted secondary to pick apart. Adams and Smith will again likely garner single coverage so we are looking to isolate them against the Trapper CBs. Adams will be running a search route allowing him to adjust to the coverage, DeVonta Smith will stretch the field and look for some big deep plays. Jakobi Meyers will be our secret weapon this week and we are looking to get him in motion for some quick screen passes and use his quickness to get chunk yardage. Jerry Jeudy will come in for the 4 WR spread looks with Michael Gallup allowing guys to stay fresh.

Sam LaPorta has claimed our top TE spot because he can do it all. He’ll have an important role in chip blocking Hutch or Parsons before releasing into the flat to be an outlet for Cousins. Waller and Jonnu Smith come in to keep our TEs fresh in 12 formations. The Trappers have the best Safety tandem in the league but they cannot be everywhere.

Rushing - Anchorage has a beefy front 7 and good DL depth. Our speedier back James Cook gets the start this week and we will look to continue with outside Zone and his speed and burst along with his pass catching ability should give Cousins another outlet in the flat. Kyren Williams will be used as Cousins personal protector mainly looking for Parsons or Reddick and be the short yardage/goal back, a role he has excelled at this season. Josh Jacobs fills in as a depth this week.

Overview:
Rivalry game against an up and coming and current number one team in our division. Singapore is a tough task and we will look to rebound after a tie to Cuba last week. Let’s go to war!

Offense:

3 Wide (60%), 2RB/1TE (20%), 4 Wide (20%)

We will look to a 50/50 Run/Pass balance this week. We want to control the time of possession and tire our their defense by grinding it out on the ground also keeping our unit on the other side of the ball fresh and limit their offensive opportunities. We will still take our shots in the passing game as well as we win or lose behind Burrow’s arm. Being in 3 or more wide 80% of snaps Singapore won’t be able to be in their base 5 man front they like to deploy and with Branch out they will be missing their up and coming star in the secondary to compete against our passing game.

Two Headed Monster:
With Jonathan Taylor free from the Pup and the leash being taken off Breece Hall, it is time to release the hounds. We aim to have a 55/45 split between Hall/Taylor. The goal is to have both heavily involved in our rushing attack. We run heavy zone with an inside/outside zone mix. Singapore has been known to play heavy man and we will look to run coverage off on the outside or across the field, creating big play opportunities for our backs outside. We will incorporate both backs in a 2RB sets at times and look to utilize some misdirection as well as motioning Hall around as a receiving option.

Burrow Ball:
Burrow says he is finally feeling like himself and we will test that out. We are going to combo route to attack all levels of the defense. We will have our high percentage throws underneath but also we will test their safeties with deep shots from our receivers and seams from Njoku. We will use burst motions to create quick pass attack options with separation early in the route to provide YAC opportunities especially against their man coverage. Motions will help us determine coverage as well. Chase is our alpha and we will feed him at all levels of their defense. We will bring in Jamo for some big play opportunities and in four wide he will play outside with Hollywood sliding inside. Josh Downs is a reliable chain mover when given opportunities and is often open with savvy routes. We entrust the rookie to give us an added element to our passing game. Our backs will be utilized as safety nets for Burrow as well.

RPO and Play Action:
We will implement the play action and RPO throughout the game. With running 50% of the time we believe we will be able to get some nice play action opportunities off of this defense with a successful run game. RPO provides us with quick hitting options that allow us to methodically move the ball down the field. We want to support Burrow while allowing him to work his magic.

Pass Pro:
We will provide some chips from our backs and support Ikem the most in pass pro. If we see overloads we will chip to that side. We want to slow down their rush to provide Burrow time to pick apart their defense. Adding some screens to our backs will also assist in slowing down their rush and we will come out with some early so it’s in the back of their pass rusher’s minds all game.

Defense:

•Base Nickel against 3 Wide

•Buffalo Nickel against 2TE

•Dime against traditional 4 Wide and Empty

•4-3 against 2RB/1TE

•5-2 against Heavy extra OL sets or any 3 Tight jumbo package.

Pass Rush:
Predominantly four rushers again with a backer blitz from David Long sprinkled in. We believe we can get home against their tackles with our edge rushers and will look to work Micah predominantly against their LT and Aidan against their RT. Newly extended Oliver gets the start next to Vea with Davis providing depth in a rotation. Some stunts and twists mixed in per usual. We will put Hutch inside in clear passing situations with Highsmith/Reddick rushing against their RT. We will rotate enough to keep guys fresh. We will incorporate some over loads with Hutch and Parsons off the same side.

Coverage:
We will play more zone in this matchup with Cover 3, Cover 3 Match and some Single High Man. We are going to move our second level defenders around a lot, especially Hufanga from in the box to robber roles, flat zones, mid zones, or to his man responsibility. We want to create as much confusion for Cousins as possible to force some costly turnovers for their offense. Surtain and Adebo have the starts outside with Izien as the NB. In Buffalo nickel Kam Curl replaces Izien. We want to disrupt middle crossers and Bates will support over the top in all coverages. A vaunted pass rush will provide support for our secondary by rushing throws and disrupting timing. We will show press at times and bail, actually press or play off mixing the looks our corners are giving. Marco Wilson is our dime corner.

Run Defense:
We look to play a gap control run defense. Hufanga will spend a lot of time in the box to support the run. Vita will two gap often allowing the UT to be a one gap penetrator. We have very good speed at the second level to shoot gaps and often resulting in TFLs stifling the run game. We will look to turn runs back inside to our beef. Widen out our ends a bit more if outside zone is becoming prevalent to give our edges an advantage while relying on them to get up field quickly but be disciplined to not get washed down the line. When in 4-3 we will allow Murray to play the Mike where he can shoot those interior gaps and act as more of a middle zone disruptor and limit his man coverage responsibilities.

Man one all game with Levi Wallace against Hollywood makes the difference as I think Anchorage hits a couple deep shots on Levi, who has been dreadful this year.  Good plans on both sides as really this is the only difference maker I could find

Anchorage 24-16

I think Brown and Downs have a solid game against their man coverage assignments.  Couple with Anchorage being able to control the LOS on defense.    This game is so much closer than the voting has turned out,  but I’m taking Anchorage in a one possession game.
