Berlin

Offense
TL;DR – Run the ball, playaction, get the ball to our playmakers

We will use a lot of playaction and rollouts to impact the second level of the defense and move the pocket so that Stroud can make the read and get the ball out.  Lancaster has some good passrushers, so we want to make them defend edge-to-edge.  We will also incorporate a few draws and screens to keep the pass rush honest.

Running Game
We want Pacheco to get 25 touches if at all possible.  We want to get Pollard at least 15 touches.  Gainwell will get a few as need be.  We are going to stay committed to the run game to open up our passing game.

Passing Game
We will make use of an underneath and intermediate passing attack to allow Stroud to read the defense and get the ball out quickly.  That said, Stroud has been very good at explosive plays this season, so we will take a number of deep shots to pick up chunk yardage and keep the defense from creeping up.

3 WR – 75% - Garrett/Drake/Aiyuk/Goedert/RB – Our base offense.  Garrett and Drake will be outside running every route.  Aiyuk starts out in the slot.  Sometimes he will motion across the formation, sometimes he will motion out to stack with the WR on his side, sometimes he will stay in place and we will snap quicker.  He will also run every route.  Goedert serves as a security blanket who occasionally pushes deeper.

2 TE – 20% - Garrett/Drake/Goedert/Darnell/RB –We will use this in short yardage and goalline situations.  We will make use of Darnell’s size in the red zone to score TDs and blocking abilities in short yardage to move the chains.  Between Drake, Goedert, Garrett, and Darnell, we feel confident about winning a jump ball.

4 WR – 5% - Garrett/Drake/Aiyuk/Doubs/RB – Spread offense for hurry up and 2 minute drill.  Stroud will typically be in shotgun here.

Defense
TL;DR – Man coverage, spy Hurts, limit the run game.

We are going to use a lot of man coverage this week.  Our CBs are playing well, so we want to have them follow their man everywhere and play a lot of Cover 1 Man.  We will play some Cover 3 and Cover 6 zone to mix things up and keep Hurts guessing.

Defensive Line
Hendrickson lines up across from Taylor.  Quinnen and Derrick do their thing on the inside.  Ebukam will start, but Bonitto will rotate in on obvious passing downs to speed rush Neal.  Our DTs will rotate in as necessary with Hinish coming in more frequently on early downs.

LBers
In man coverage, Bernard will have the RB and Jordyn will have the TE.  If they go 2 TE, Tremaine comes in and has the 2nd TE.

Cornerbacks
St-Juste takes Pittman.  Deonte takes Parker. Witherspoon takes Boyd.  Benford takes the 4th WR.

If they go 2 RB, Witherspoon will have the 2nd RB.

SS
Winfield will be up near the LOS at all times and will be the Hurts spy.  He will sit in a zone and mirror Hurts everywhere.

FS
Thornhill will always line up deep middle.  If we are in Cover 1, he may shade to one side or the other.

Lancaster Offense:

We're going to keep rolling this week with our run-based offense while continuing to open things up more in the passing game. Berlin's secondary is talented but young so we think we can put them in conflict positions and make plays that way. We also want run a more fast-paced, hurry up tempo this week to wear out Berlin's defensive front.

Berlin has a stout interior defensive line but the depth is lacking. We think our hurry up offense can help us get favorable matchups on the defensive line as Berlin brings in their backups. The more runs we can have against Nik Bonitto and Kurt Hinish, the better. David Montgomery will be our featured back this week, getting 70-75% of the carries with Tyler Allgeier spelling him. As always we don't want to forget to highlight Jalen Hurts' rushing ability. He'll be getting option looks as well as designed runs to force the defense to account for him at all times. And on short yardage plays, we will absolutely run some push sneaks with him. We want our run game to wear out the front of Berlin while also helping us set up our passing game.

For the passing game, we want to really attack the inexperienced Berlin secondary. Our receiver depth may be lacking but we have faith in our starting trio to make the plays needed to win. We want to create conflict and use the to make plays. We want to run play action plays to open things up downfield, particularly once we've established the run more. We'll use this to hopefully bait up the safeties and take some deeper shots. We also want to attack underneath with flood and drag routes where Hurts comes out on a bootleg. We'll force the cover man to make a decision to stay in coverage or come up for Hurts. Either way, we can take advantage and get some good yardage.

Lancaster Defense:

We fully expect Berlin to switch over to CJ Stroud this week. Even without him in the lineup this offense has been clicking. It's a tough challenge and we know we won't end this game with a shutout on defense. Stroud has played very well but he's still a rookie so we want to put him under pressure and try to force him into making some mistakes.

We want to run a mix of man and zone coverages this week out of the same or similar nickel looks. In man, coverage assignments will be Alexander on Wilson, Stephens on Aiyuk, and Stevenson on London. Warner will cover Goedert and Gay will cover the running back. The safeties will play cover 2 with some cover 1 looks mixed in where the other safety comes up to play a middle zone.

Our main zone coverage will be cover 3 with our outside corners and one safety playing deep coverage with the other members of the back 7 filling in the zones underneath. The safety will rotate who goes back and who comes up. Our corners will stay lined up on their man assignments and play zone or man out of that positioning. We have a defense with some experienced veteran leaders like Fred Warner and Minkah Fitzpatrick so we don't expect to have too many issues running this.

We think the best way to beat this offense is to get pressure on Stroud. So we plan to blitz a decent amount this game, with the blitzes coming from different directions. We particularly want pressure to come against the interior of the OL so expect to see single or double blitzes against the interior. We also like our odds to get pressure with just our front four and our rotation so we really want to put the heat on and get Stroud rattled. We also trust our front 7's ability to get after the running game and keep that limited as well. Having an extra safety coming up into the box often should help in that area as well.

This is one where you just wish Jalen Hurts had more help. Pittman can be a number one but Parker and Boyd even though Boyd scored this week aren’t reliable enough right now to support Hurts and Pittman with the passing game. I know Lancaster had faith in the trio and play action will help but I’m just not sure how much support those main two are going to be getting.

I have the same feeling here. Lancaster has got a good gameplan and I'd like to vote for them, but I just don't see enough explosiveness or production out of their offensive weapons to carry them to a win.
