Okay so who are the 3rd and 4th starters in the playoffs? E-Rod made a strong case with this outing but he's never pitched in the postseason and has been up and down this year. Could realistically make a case for any 2 of him, Porcello, Price and Fister, but just as easily make one against any of them.

I think it comes down to post-season experience. Price and Fister have the most IP out of the 4 with Rick coming it very shy. Porcello hasn't won a postseason game while Price is 2-8. Both have around a 5.50 era in the post-season. Fister is 4-2 with a 2.60 ERA over 55 IP. I think you give him the ball 3rd. I honestly couldnt choose between Price and Porcello, so many give E-Rod a shot as the 4th?

What's the Sox bench going to look like for the playoffs? I'm really uneasy about the idea of Chris Young or Brock Holt having to hit in the clutch. Travis might be their best hitter off the bench currently, but it won't make sense to carry 3 first basemen.

And for that matter, who's the starting 3rd baseman? Nunez is the best all-around option but he might have to play 2nd with Pedroia still gimpy, and we don't want to take Devers' bat out of the lineup. Could DH Devers but then you lose either Moreland or Ramirez.

If Nunez is healthy, both Young and Holt should be left on the playoff roster. Young makes absolutely no sense.

If you want a bat off the bench? It's Travis.

If you want a defensive replacement/utility guy? It's Holt.

Holt and Young are zero's at the plate, so give me the guy who can play multiple positions. Preferably, Nunez is healthy and both are left off the roster. Seems like he hurt himself again last night which sucks.

SP: Sale, Pomeranz (Sox should skip his next start, give him some rest with his velo down), Rodriguez, Porcello (4). In that order.

Pen: Price, Kimbrel, Reed, Workman, Price, Kelly, Scott, Smith (8)

Hitters: Vazquez, Leon, Moreland, Pedroia, Bogaerts, Devers, Nunez, Travis, Benintendi, Bradley, Betts, Davis, Ramirez (13)

The Astros don't have many LHB (2). Reddick is the only one who calls for a lefty specialist. It's possible Scott is left off this series and they go with someone like Smith or Barnes (barf) instead.

Farrell has used Barnes as his set up guy most of the year and Barnes continues to get high leverage innings. I'd be shocked if he were left off the playoff roster.

Scott shouldn't sniff the playoff roster.
