Mock and other considerations

As it stands today the Jets have 5 wins and I believe they win no more and finish 5-11.

That being said, management has 2 options going forward.

1. Draft a QB OR sign a QB.....the Jets certainly will have enough cap space to sign a QB and it is possible that the Jets sign Cousins.

Should the Jets sign Cousins THAN, I believe the Jets will go in this direction.

1. Saquon Barkley

If the Jets decide to go into the draft without a QB than the Jets will draft a QB.

The question is who? If they want to give a kings ransom for a QB than it will be one of the top 3, if not I can see them drafting

Baker Mayfield in the late 1st moving back into the first round.

2. Tarvarus McFadden CB

3. Will Hernandes OG

4.D.J. Moore WR

5 Frank Ragnow C

These are the top 4 where I believe the Jets could most improve. As you can see 4 of the top players are Offensive Players with the exception of McFadden. If the Jets sign Cousins, than drafting Barkley would instantly make the offense a major player in the AFL and put the Jets in a position not seen in a decade.

Should the Jets have to draft a QB, than it certainly could be 3 or 4 more years before you see a competitive team.

Chubb is tough one to figure out.  I still think he belongs to 4-3 DE only.  For that reason, Barkley has to be picked before Chubb.

Why? He's more than Athletic enough to play standing up.

speed isnt all there is to pass rushing I wouldnt pass on Chubb or Landry just cause they arent speed rushers.

While I agree with you in theory. What we need is speed off the edge though. Jenkins, Lozo and Donahue aren’t bad Edge rushers, but aren’t elite atheletes with speed. And that’s what we need.

What we need is just a pass rusher most speed guys are just specialists outside of Beasley and Von. Just get a guy who is pretty athletic and knows what hes doing and we'll be straight

That’s what I’m saying though. The top pass rushers in this class aren’t great athletes. I watch pass rushers hips. And that shows a lot with them. And Key and Sweat are the only 2 that stuck out to me as athletes.

IF we are to spend a first-round draft pick on an edge rusher, the guy HAS to play every down, be a starter from Day 1 of mini-camp (unless he is holding out, :() and absolutely fortify the ROLB position (with Wilkerson a goner, Leo Williams might play LE next season so we don't really know who will be lined up next to our potential 1st rounder...it might be Ealy, but he might not have the bulk to play every down at RE). I don't know the draft prospects on defense nearly as well as most of you do, but is there someone THAT good available in this draft who would be a better pick for us as an immediate starter at ROLB than if we were to select a QB or Barkley? Basically, is there an ROLB version of Jamal Adams in this draft? If there is, then he should be considered with our first pick. If there is not, then look for a more raw edge rusher with a later pick and focus on QB and maybe Barkley. My thinking is still we need to draft a QB in Round 1.

Other thoughts on this mock:

- we have more than 2 QB options (draft OR sign)...we can do both. In fact, we SHOULD do both. It just depends on whom we choose to draft and sign. Instead of putting all our eggs in one basket like trading up to draft Rosen or Darnold, or signing Cousins, I much prefer the option of having more than one new QB in our stables next year. Signing Alex Smith while drafting a Mayfield or Jackson seems to me like our best bet. It doesn't have to be Alex Smith, it could be someone else, but the idea of having a starter next season AND our future starter appeals to me the most. This also would be maximizing our asset that is our new offensive coordinator. I also would not be against bringing back McCown on a similar deal as the one he has this season to be a No. 2 or 3 QB. He clearly has earned a lot of respect both in the locker room and around the league. He might get a better offer, but he will also be 39 and coming off a broken arm. So, he might be ours to keep.

- I am one of the few here not against the idea of drafting Barkley. However, it would mean we MUST keep the rest of the O-line intact (apart from C) and it also means we would need to find an edge rusher later on in the draft. And it also means we better be able to keep Claiborne AND perhaps sign another starting CB. If we can land a starting RB later on in the draft, that probably still seems like the better option. Someone like a Sonny Michel, for example. But I am not completely against the concept of drafting Barkley. It would mean the end for either Forte or Powell, for sure though.

- I like the rest of the mock draft, save for the WR. I really wouldn't draft a WR that early this year. I believe we have the WR elements that Morton needs to work with. We have a clear-cut deep threat in Robby Anderson, with another potential one in Devin Smith (though I certainly am not counting on it at this point). We have an inside, slot receiver with great size in Enunwa, who should be back to full strength next season. He is the type of volume receiver teams need. We have Kearse, who can do a bit of everything and provides leadership, a winning pedigree and a security blanket for the QB (whomever he may be). We have a potential slot receiver in Stewart, we also have a potential outside guy in Hansen. We can always add another free agent, too. I think we are fine at WR and I would also add that I am fine with the tight ends (ASJ, Leggett and Tomlinson). MAYBE we could add another blocker via FA, but otherwise we are good.

Then you haven't watched enough of Landry or Chubb there both great athletes, especially Landry.

No words how much I disagree with this post.  A RB over what could be an elite pass rusher is just about the worst use of resources you could do.
