O’Connell:   “Sam’s been great. The physical talent jumps out to me. His ability to throw the football. He’s really, really refined himself from a technique and fundamentals standpoint. Really playing with great balance and kind of the body position that elite quarterbacks tend to play with.”

“Just from a standpoint of his ability to absorb our offense, go out and execute with a lot of guys, when he steps into the huddle, he’s stepping in with guys that have been in this system for two years. And we’re not really slowing down from a standpoint of how we want to kind of install our offense."

I have a really good feeling about Sam Darnold this year. I think he will be more than serviceable and earn himself a nice contract somewhere next year. He has never played with talent like this and has never had the coaching he does now, and I see no reason why KOC can't work some of his magic on him and we luck our way to 10 wins.

My prediction. Come preseason, everyone will highly anticipate JJ and will be very disappointed. Throw like 50% of passes, miss pretty badly on some. Everyone will be super down on the Vikings and it will be super annoying to deal with as naysayers will bat their chest at their "correct" opinion (even though he isn't even the starter...). Meanwhile, Darnold will just have his solid starts. Nothing insane, just like a 7/10, 85 yds and a TD or something. But then, come like, week 9, the VIkings will be like, a quiet 5-3 team with Darnold quietly having a great season. Of course, then people will actually start paying attention to us and he'll start sucking again and we lose out or something.

Is this a real prediction? Not really, but it feels like the perfect amount of annoyance. hope. and disappointment to expect as a Vikings fan lol.

If Lewis Cine is cut, would he go down as our worst first round pick ever?

We've had our share of bad ones (Troy Williamson, Erasmus James, Christian Ponder, Laquon Treadwell, Mike Hughes etc.) but at least they made a small impact on the team and/or could be traded for future capital.

Wouldn't touch the top 5. Maybe not even the top 10.

Cine’s injury absolves him from quite a bit. A compound fracture in the ankle is career, and life, altering.

no. not even if you keep promoting him that way.

Demetrius Underwood quit the team after two summer practices.

He didn't make it through one practice.  He walked off the field in the middle of the first one.

He might have made it through 3 meals, but he didn't make it through one practice.

Quote

Aug. 2: On his first day of practice, Underwood ditches camp and hitches a ride to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, flies to Philadelphia, and is found four days later in a hotel lobby with $8 in his pockets. Underwood says he is torn between football and the ministry.

In 2007, Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports listed Underwood as one of the worst first-round picks (at the 29th slot) since the AFL-NFL merger. According to the article, Underwood missed most of his senior year, and his coaches at Michigan State warned NFL scouts that he was not mentally stable enough to play in the NFL. In Robinson's view, by ignoring these warnings, the Vikings made "arguably the dumbest pick ever made in the first round."

In a September 28, 2010 article, Yahoo Sports noted Underwood's mental health issues as a case in point in regard to the NFL falling short in helping players who suffer from various mental illnesses that are in no small part connected to the pressures of the job of an NFL athlete. The 2010 article also pointed out that "Underwood was tormented by visions of the apocalypse. He used to write notes discussing the end of the world on pieces of paper the size of postage stamps. When he was in a normal state, he could be engaging in conversation. He was funny and intelligent. He also exuded physical confidence and had extraordinary talent."

Cine doesn't come close to this.
