Just wanted to ask your guys opinion.  A crazy idea as a contingency plan if Saquon Barkley was not available was to pick Quenton Nelson and possibly move him to Tackle due to Joe Thomas being on the brink of retirement.  He has the size at 6'5" 325.  It was either that or look for a trade down.  Does anyone think he can play tackle?  Was it a crazy idea to even consider it?

Peace!!!

Nelson operates best using a jump set from guard. There's no way to know if that projects to taking a vertical set at tackle and then either perfecting that (like Joe Thomas did) or branching that out and varying the angles on his set at tackle. Taking Nelson to move him to tackle suddenly makes him a risky prospect because you're blindly putting him at a different position where you can't know if the critical factors will translate. It's crazy to have even considered moving him to tackle. Any team that drafts him should keep him at LG where he's best. There's no real difference in importance of tackle or guard anyway.

I don't remember what the Giants have done in free agency but the good thing about having a poor O-line is it can be upgraded with 2nd and 3rd round linemen. The difference between Nelson and Hernandez is less than the difference between Barkley and Darkwa.

You say this like most of the leagues best RB's weren't taken in the 2nd or later...

to be fair, how many RB in the league were actually taken in the first round tho

Same can be said for guards

You guys may not know him, but Kent Lee Platte (a member of #drafttwitter and #lionstwitter) has done some research on this. Safeties and interior offensive lineman are basically the two safest positions to draft from at the top of the draft. They rarely get hyped as early picks and when they do it's usually for a good reason. Fans, media, players, coaches, GM's, and owners all get excited for basically every other position and end up ignoring safeties and IOL because they get caught up in the idea that they aren't worth it or that they can get a similar one a few rounds later. Yet history has shown pretty often that it's a good idea to take one early.

Grow up. His research wasn't on the Lions, his research was on the entire NFL. Let me know when you've compiled data on every player for the last few decades. If you have an issue with it go tell him yourself that you think his raw data is wrong, his @ on twitter is @MathBomb. Good luck.
