nah. Toronto just isn't really a title contender.

Bottom line is you need a HOF player (and more like top 10-20 player of all time) to win a title. Even outside of the GS dynasty era. Toronto tops out as a second or third round team. That's the tough part about the NBA. If they "blow it up" there is a pretty minimal chance they even get back to this point. There isn't anything wrong with being a competitive playoff team in the NBA, but it's gotta be tough to watch the same thing year after year.

Plenty of teams have won a title without a 10-20 all time player.

Detroit Pistons

Spurs in 2014 had Duncan, but he wasn't elite at that time and they had no real all star.

That list is super small for sure.

1 in the last 30 years sounds about right.

Name them.

Who is your top 10-20 players?

is Kevin Garnett top 20 all time?

is Isiah Thomas top 20 all time?

is Hakeem top 20 of all time?

do you already have curry or Durant top 20 all time?

is Dirk top 20 all time?

how many people are on your top 20 list?

i mean super stars win championships but it takes multiple stars to win, not 1 top guy.

I think it should be top 30 player of all time since it is so subjective in where these guys rank. A lot of them are in the same tier but just personal preference.

Every player you named is a top 30 player of all time. Durant is on pace to be a top 12-15 player of all time.

Garnett is around top 20-25 of all time.

Hakeem without question is top 20 of all time.

Dirk is in the KG range, maybe a bit higher. Though again, very subjective.

Thomas is a top 30 player of all time.

They are all floating around there. Call it top 30 and the point is the exact same.

Pistons are the only one you can name in the last 30 years that has won a title without a generational talent

plus if you are going to go back 20 to 30 years for some examples that changes it. Guys that were top X at that time would fall out as more players enter the league. That itself requires an adjustment to what X should be.

You'd also need to allow for how good a player is in their era even if it doesn't translate to all time. If your dealing with a time period that is "weak" with top all time talent then obviously you don't need a player as good.
