At least Xbox puts major exclusive (not that they have many...) Day 1 releases on Game Pass. Haha... well, my subscription ends in about 10 days and I was considering reupping, but screw that. I already thought $120 was too much for what they offer. I'll get by fine without it. Maybe get it if it ever goes on sale.

biggio7
Old thread I know... but Should I get a ps5? Back in April, I tried to play MLB the Show 23 (last year's) on my ps4. The timing of the game wasn't matching up with what I was hitting on the controller. Everything was delayed and there would be a hitch in graphics. I tried it both online and offline. It would still do it. I thought it was the game so I tried another game but there was still something off when I played Assassin's Creed. Sometimes it's noticeable on Fortnite but not nearly as often. I know it's not the controller because it works and responds well to stuff on the system. And, since it happened offline as well as online, I'm not sure what the issue could be or the fix. Any ideas? But, of course my option is getting a ps5? They definitely make sacrifices to keep the games rolling on the old systems. It really depends what you want to use the box for, but yeah upgrading to a PS5 or getting an Xbox series s cheaper to play the show on gamepass would be the best options. But obviously if there are other PlayStation franchises you play then PS5 it is. The PS5 pro is set to release allegedly this fall, so might be worth waiting to see if there is a price drop on the base system. Current next gen rumors are PS6 in 2027 and new Xbox in 2026, so you’d get a couple good years out of it. And if this gen is any indication, they’ll barely take advantage of the power gap so it can release on the old consoles.

The PS5 has been out since holiday of 2020. It's worth getting a next gen console.
biggio7
Yeah, I'm really hoping for a price drop. I usually upgrade when they stopped making games for the previous one. I didn't realize it's been four years past release date.

43M
Its crazy that this console is pushing 4 years since its release and it barely feels like this console generation has even really started given the lack of quality games from THIS generation. Seems like half of the great games were previous gen titles ported to next gen. I have enjoyed my PS5, but I remember trying so hard to get one for over a year and now, I feel like I still could have easily waited until next year or even 2026. Outside of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, I dont think Ive really played a game thats a true PS5 game. Games like Horizon: Forbidden West and God of War Ragnarok were great, but they were also released for PS4. I get there are some other games, but it just seems so lackluster compared to the PS2 and PS3 era. Game production has gotten way too big for its own good and microtransactions and online play have allowed developers to milk games way too long. Oh, and then theres the fact that many of the best AAA game studios have just shi the bed in recent years (looking at you Besthesda/Microsoft, Rocksteady, Rockstar, etc....) Yeah feel like this gen was basically a new edition of a deluxe the PS4 / Xbox One. Biggest game changer was the SSDrives and fixing the 90+ sec load times. But you barely get to see the benefits of them outside of that. Covid definitely delayed it some, but big multiple releases from both console makers taking 5+ years is ridiculous. Feels like this fall and 2025 are finally filled with next gen stuff.
elevators_rule
Wish we had more devs like FromSoft. Release amazing games that focus on combat and gameplay. 4 games out in 8 years, averaging a 2 year turnaround (often with great DLC, too). Games are amazing and often rated 9+ out of 10. Instead it seems like every major dev nowadays on Xbox/Playstation want to release giant, blockbuster games that take 4+ years to develop. Not only is that wait way too long (with literally only ~2 games per generation), but it doesn't allow the studios to take as many creative risks since a failure with that much money/time commitment can collapse a studio. iknowcool
I don't know if I would say this generation has been terrible for video games, rather that it has been terrible for original IPs. For example, last year was great for video games (Zelda, BG3, Diablo, FF, Alan Wake, Dead Space, etc) but almost none of them were original titles. But the same was true for the Xbone/PS4 generation, which I feel like had worse overall games at this point in its timeline than the current-gen does. I could be wrong on that though. I would say this has easily been the worst generation (since I started gaming anyway) for FPS multiplayer games, both new titles and in general. Unfortunately I don't see that getting better anytime soon. Edited July 18 by iknowcool

The other issue is the move to "live service" and FP2 games that are designed to keep players grinding for 5-10 years
