It’s too bad he was doomed playing with a bad OL from pretty much 2010-2015 and with T Jack/Ponder the majority of his prime outside of the Favre year(s).

Playing with an elite QB doesn't help RB production. If anything it's the opposite. No way Peterson puts up 2000 yards in 2012 if the Vikings have a QB with a YPA over 7 -- he just wouldn't get the attempts/usage.

Vikings OL was very good for much of that stretch, top 5-10 in the league from 2011-13, and especially good at run blocking.

PFF team run block grade rankings for Peterson's time with the Vikings:

  • 2007: 2nd
  • 2008: 8th
  • 2009: 31st
  • 2010: 21st
  • 2011: 2nd
  • 2012: 3rd
  • 2013: 4th
  • 2014: 12th (Peterson suspended)
  • 2015: 12th
  • 2016: 30th (Peterson on IR)

There's only 2 really bad run blocking OLs there: the injury plagued 2016 unit (which didn't affect Peterson, who was on IR himself), and the 2009 unit, which was limited mostly by Sullivan struggling with power in his first year as a starter.

Peterson had some of the best run blocking OL in the league during his time in Minnesota: Hutchinson for the first half of his career, and Loadholt for the rest of it.

He also had OCs who made the most of the run game in Darrell Bevell (3 top 10 finishes in rushing yards for the Vikings, 4 top 5 finishes with the Seahawks, and now we'll see if he can move the Lions up the rankings this year) and Bill Musgrave (top 5 rushing offense in Jacksonville 2003, top 10 in Oakland 2016, and back to back 12th best in Denver 2017-18 despite no notable RB talent).

I agree that an elite QB probably would have hurt AD’s production in usage. MN had one of the worst qb situations though most of his career (Ponder and Jackson were bottom 5 qbs), and had to face many fronts that cheated on him. A mid teir (Flacco) qb would have helped his production.

You make some good points about  the lines being statistically good at run blocking. I’m kind of shocked by this. Were the pass blocking grades inverse? I have kind of considered the line a subpar until now pretty much the last decade (with an exception of maybe 2017 when the squad had below average talent, no injuries and just kind of jelled and worked for a year).. Maybe it was just the pass blocking/going too man blocking heavy with personnel until like 2 years ago

Peterson's attorney, Chase Carlson: "The truth behind Adrian Peterson’s current financial situation is more than is being reported at this time. Because of ongoing legal matters, I am unable to go into detail, but I will say this is yet another situation of an athlete trusting the wrong people and being taken advantage of by those he trusted. Adrian and his family look forward to sharing further details when appropriate.”

The statement came hours after TheAthletic.com reported that Peterson is being sued in Pennsylvania for failing to pay back a $5.2 million loan. In two separate matters, judges have ordered Peterson to pay $2.4 million to one creditor and $600,000 to another creditor.

Despite the fortune Peterson has made, he appears to be nearly broke, with debts that he is struggling to pay, and debts that he’ll continue to struggle to pay even after getting a $1.5 million signing bonus to remain in Washington this year, with another $1 million in salary on the way for the season.
