INbengalfan
Cool. But I'm kinda shocked. We have four young guys looking to step up and replace him. Where is the Green news? That should have happened by now. Maybe tomorrow?
Beck Bristow
Seems like a response to the two promising rookies both having some injuries. Surprised though. I didn't expect another contract for him.
sparky151
Not a fan of this move. RB is a young man's position and Gio is aging.
INbengalfan
I just don't get the timing. I mean, Anderson will miss the year, but Perine, Williams and Ellis won't. Why commit so much now when this deal could have easily been struck in January. The only benefit is using cap space this year. The downside is age and potential injuries. SmittyBacall
I like Gio and all but backup running backs are a dime a dozen these days. That's money that could be invested elsewhere.
Johnny Nix
I think it’s just them trying to sell the draft and develop, and “we resign our own guys”

That's money that could be invested elsewhere. It's really not much money. It's not going to impact other signings in the least. They have so much cap room because they aren't paying their QB 30% of the cap, they can afford to splurge elsewhere. Also, if i'm reading the tweet right, there's basically no guaranteed money. So they could walk away from this whenever it became inconvenient.

I'm not so convinced it's going to happen after his injury (which is short sighted IMO). I think they might let him play out the year, then franchise him and try to work out a deal if the season goes well. If he continues to get bit by the injury bug, maybe they don't try to sign him at all (not likely).
