He's yet to play there. He played SAM prior to MLB.

It just fits his play style/strengths to a tee.

It wouldn't necessarily be a "surprise" if Jack thrives there...but like Buzz said, that's not really where he earned his money.  So it's still a real ??? at the moment.  He got himself paid playing more or less a SLB/MLB hybrid role with Poz doing a lot of the early down "heavy lifting".  It seemed like an odd fit at first, when they started shoehorning him in there...but in this sort of system, it actually kinda worked to his strengths.  Letting him do a lot in coverage and as a free rusher at times.

Obviously Jack's speed/range and coverage ability would fit with a lot of more typical Will LBer roles.  But in this sort of system...one of the most important things is racking up tackles with instant read and react plays and closing speed.  Which...Jack has been a pretty weak tackler for a LBer, which is in part why he stank as a MLB.  He's also not shown as much as i'd like to see in terms of decisively attacking plays to make it to those tackles yards earlier.  Compared to Telvin who did absolutely thrive in that role here...Jack is a far more cautious player.  More of a "let the play come to him" type...in most of what we've seen from him.

So in that respect...he's got plenty to prove.  Even if i wouldn't really call it a "surprise" to see him succeed there.

Totally forgot about Telvin being the WLB...I swear I've been off my game for weeks lol

Feels like he's been gone forever

In some ways, it feels like he's been gone forever.  A lot of long games since he quit.  But on the other hand...it still kinda feels like it was just yesterday that we had that awesome defense with Telvin playing at a ProBowl level.  Always happens with time, but still sad to reflect on.

Lol now practically every single year from Shack Harris era has a story like this.

We had a trade up for one would be elite player but watched it fall through to draft a turd instead. Or traded up for a turd when we promised a would be elite player that they were going to be selected.

2004 - The Giants expected the Cardinals to select Rivers, and had a deal with us to move back for Ben, while we would move up to take Larry Fitzgerald. Instead the Cards took Larry and we ended up with Reggie Williams.

2007 - We has a trade with Pittsburgh worked out to move up to #15 for Revis. The Jets traded up to #14. We got Reggie Nelson instead.

2008 - Promised Calais Campbell we would take him at our selection. Traded up for Derrick Harvey instead.

Imagine how different our franchise outlook would have been if we would have been able to pull those off.

Pretty depressing how unlucky we've been over the years. Was nice to be on the other end these past few years as far as Ramsey (RIP) and Allen falling into our laps.

2008 still was riddled with injuries so probably still too much to come back from but CC plus all the picks we traded for Harvey might’ve netted us the OL depth we needed

Yup. But not before Caldwell had his own gaffs, going with a bad Plan A instead of the good Plan B.

We were supposed to trade back for Gurley, but didn’t like the full set of compensation the Falcons offered. Took Fowler instead.

If Bortles got taken, we were gonna take Khalil Mack and then either Teddy or Carr. We would have ended up with Mack, QB and ARob instead of Bortles, Lee and ARob. Alternatively, the Falcons wanted to trade up with us but didn’t offer enough. Maybe that changes without Bortles there. In that situation, we would have taken Mike Evans. and then the QB and second WR later.

And this one not verified, but had been floated around a lot by people in the know: if Joeckel had gone #1, we were taking Ansah.

Just...... oof.

Lol and if he had done all those plan Bs, maybe we don’t get Ramsey or Allen or whatever. But Coughlin probably is never brought in to “fix things” and then maybe we don’t end up losing any of our star players.

Neat exercise to get more depressed about where we’re at.

Yeah, I could've done without the CC story. Thinking about all the what if's that you mentioned as well...depressing to say the least.

Hopefully Caldwell's plan A is the right plan A this year and it works out.
