Did I see that he played two ways at times? This is why I like Old-time football. Those guys could play and did so from more than one position.

They don't make them like they used to....sigh.

His first few years in the early 60s he played sparingly on offense (one decent receiving year). Playing both sides was really common in the 50s but the game started moving away from it naturally as the game continued to grow. Part of this is because franchises started off with only 16 active players in the early years, and didn't get up to 40 until 1964 (the first year Johnson played exclusively on defense). It forced both ways to be a thing. It's also why if you browse kickers from the 40s and 50s, you'll often see them playing offense or defense as well. Teams couldn't afford to use roster spots on specialists. Gordie Soltau is the guy who did that for us - kicker and an end on both offense and defense.

The ~10 year build up to this game made it that much more special, just like I know these last three Superbowl losses are going to add to the glory that is my first Superbowl win

Never thought Alex would be as good as he has been in the public eye as a speaker. Feel like he's knocked it out of the park during the stints I've seen him on ESPN or in interviews as a media face.

that is my favorite 49er game of all time.  What a war.  And the Alex redemption arc of that game was insane.  I'm glad he went on to have a damn good career.   This dude went through professional hell here, I'll never forget "We Want Carr!! We Want Carr!"......utterly embarrassing from our fanbase.

Here's the whole talk, I found it quite enjoyable:

I really liked the perspective from Young at the end.  You just gotta stay in the mix, get in the playoffs, and then climb Everest.

Dave Volsky has put up some NICE NFL Films restorations on his YT channel lately.

Included are 1080p upscaled editions of NFL's Greatest Games 1983 NFC Championship 49ers at Redskins, and NFL Films Game of the Week NFL Wildcard 2002 Giants at 49ers.

He did a very nice job on SB XIX! Watched it this weekend for the first time in it's entirety. So good! Tyler and Craig seemed to have the most impact--other than our MVP of the SB, Montana!

That's why they went with Troy Smith as the back up.  Solve that riddle angry mob!

Very embarrassing.  I wish we coulda just engaged in disorganized shouting.  I still remember the look on Carr's face.  He did not want to go in there.

Didnt play much here, but RIP to Larry Allen. That 2006 season blocking fore Gore was great. strong man and athletic

I still remember him going to the pro-bowl as and old guy for us and just wiping the floor with everyone in their bench competition. Crazy that he’s gone at 52, I wonder what happened.
